We went along to the launch of the Wood Street Collection marketing suite last night, a new residential neighbourhood in the heart of Georgian Wakefield, where plans for high quality new homes delivered by #FallowdaleHomes, the housebuilding arm to RUSHBOND PLC, were unveiled. The Wood Street Collection has been thoughtfully designed to integrate with the area’s brickwork facades, large windows, and striking doorways. The new Wood Street Collection is surrounded by grand civic buildings, a perfect contrast between the City of Wakefield’s past and its cultural evolution. #Wakefield is an ambitious city which is embracing the opportunities for regeneration through heritage and culture and, as Rushbond’s Senior Residential Sales Manager, Nina Barker, is quoted as saying - “Wakefield is West Yorkshire’s hidden gem” – we couldn’t agree more. There was plenty to laugh about at the Channel 4 Sean Lock Comedy Award last night. Held at the brilliant venue that is Project House in #Leeds and hosted by the one and only Joe Wilkinson, we thoroughly enjoyed watching the 10 new fantastic emerging comedy talents. A huge congratulations to all the comedians and in particular, Harriet Dyer, who was announced this year’s winner, we look forward to seeing what you, and all the others, get up to next.

Last week saw the unveiling of Ribbons, a striking and important new sculpture by artist Pippa Hale. We’ve worked with Pippa many times over the last 15+ years and felt very privileged to hear her speak movingly about the many years and people behind her work, as it was unveiled at Playhouse Gardens. When the talents of clients and friends come together, it’s a very special occasion and Ribbons sits prominently in an inclusive, sustainable new landscape created by re-form Landscape Architecture. Ribbons was created to honour 384 women from Leeds, past and present, nominated for inclusion because of their significant contributions to the city and their communities. As well as being beautiful, the work addresses the imbalance in diversity seen in public art works in cities across the world and we are here for it! Well done Pippa and team, Ribbons is a wonderful addition to our city. #PippaHale re-form Landscape Architecture Ltd #publicart #Leeds #visitleeds #yorkshire #sculpture

We've been working with the team at Fun Palaces as they build up to some very special events across the UK, helping to showcase the brilliance of when local communities come together for an annual weekend of creativity. From allotments to adventure playgrounds, libraries to shopping centres, National Trust properties to university campuses, village halls and community cafes; Fun Palaces take place in the heart of local neighbourhoods this weekend. There are workshops on DJing in #Redruth and printmaking in #Gateshead; friendship bracelet-making and sword fighting in #Preston and bulb planting in #Newham; online training to become a Wikimedia Commons contributor, live from #StAndrews, and the chance to get involved with women in engineering at The University of Sheffield. Events up and down the country have been devised and created entirely by the public to encourage people to have a go at something new and celebrate the joy of creativity - something we’re always a fan of.

“Three of our greatest writers, and their names are spelled incorrectly. You can’t make it up” – Sharon Wright | Quote of the Day in The New York Times. 85 years on from installation, journalist, author and Brontë Society newsletter editor Sharon Wright, also known for her book The Mother of the Brontës, spotted a glaring mistake on the Brontë sisters' memorial in Poet’s Corner at Westminster Abbey. The diaeresis - the two dots above the 'E' in their surname - was missing. Last week that error was finally corrected. Working closely with our longstanding client The Brontë Parsonage Museum and in collaboration with the comms team at Westminster Abbey, we shared with the world the newly improved memorial and the media response has been overwhelmingly positive, reaching local, national and international audiences, as we have come to expect with news of #Yorkshire’s favourite literary family. Sharon has been interviewed by everyone from The Guardian and BBC Radio 4 Today to The New York Times and The Yorkshire Post. The story has been highlighted by other major publications including The Washington Post, The Times, The Telegraph, The Observer, Evening Standard, BBC Online and The i paper (featuring an opinion piece by Susie Dent). Broadcast coverage includes BBC Look North, CBC/Radio-Canada, BBC Radio 4 Today, ITV News, BBC Radio 6 Music, BCB Radio and BBC Radio 4 The World Tonight. Hopefully now, no-one will ever forget to include those all important little dots…

What a joy it was to see everyone’s hard work over the last 4 years come into the spotlight and boy does #Bradford suit being centre stage. And to hear the hugely positive reaction from the audience as some of the programme highlights for Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture were announced. The fantastic event at St Georges Hall last night was a taste of what’s to come and a blast of the brilliant talent that is brimming in the city and whole district. It really is Our Time. #ItStartsHere #LetsGoBradford #Bradford2025 #UKCityofCulture

Today #Rotherham town centre’s first cinema in more than 30 years has opened. It’s a big vote of confidence in the fact that people still want the shared experience of enjoying a film together. Despite an accelerated rise in streaming services since the pandemic and the cost-of-living-crisis, the appeal of social spaces providing affordable entertainment seems as great now as it was when the ‘picture palaces’ of a century ago lit up our towns and cities. At that time, it was a new experience to watch films from around the world, to see different perspectives and stories beyond our own backyard. The novelty might have worn off but the enjoyment of coming together to enjoy cultural experiences is as strong as ever. It’s also huge cause for celebration in a town where recent national media headlines have been dominated by division. One page in a new chapter for Rotherham which has seen £47million investment in Forge Island, a new, much-needed family-friendly part of the town, where boutique cinema operator, The Arc is located. The history of Forge Island was new to me before we began working alongside ace placemakers Muse and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, development partners of the site which originated in the 19th century as a steel forge. Who knew (not me!) that the world-famous Bailey Bridge came from Rotherham? Used extensively in civil engineering construction projects across the world, the portable, steel truss bridge was designed and developed by Rotherham-born civil engineer, Donald Bailey and was used by the military throughout Europe during the Second World War. FaulknerBrowns have incorporated the diamond truss steel design that is synonymous with Bailey Bridges into the new bridge at Forge Island, in celebration of Rotherham’s incredible engineering heritage, at the same time as creating a contemporary permanent gateway structure for the town. Opening a new cinema is a joyful thing in itself. But when you visit Forge Island, with beautiful landscape design by re-form Landscape Architecture Ltd, you can feel the history of the whole place literally underfoot and that’s a film location that future movie-makers’ dreams are made of. #Placemaking #Regeneration #Yorkshire #ArcCinemas
