About us

Anstey Horne is a firm of Chartered Surveyors with a longstanding reputation as a leading consultancy practice, specialising in rights of light, daylight and sunlight, party walls and building surveying. We are the foremost authority in this specialist field, and have advised on some of the most recognised developments in the UK. We draw upon an unrivalled and industry-acknowledged expertise to deliver highly regarded and trusted solutions for our clients. We have a remarkably rich history, going back to 1795, which continues to influence us today. Our success in modern times is owed, in part, to our specialisation and our recognition to improving the high quality service we already provide. As part of our on-going development of the company, we have added a general building consultancy to provide an even greater level of service to our clients. We strive to continually improve this expertise through training, development and investment in our people and software. At Anstey Horne we value our independence, and are committed to offering a high-quality, discreet, professional service to our clients. We believe in the importance of developing and maintaining good relationships with clients and other consultants, and the need for communicating effectively and clearly. This is demonstrated by our client base, the high proportion of repeat instructions and recommendations from other property professionals.

  • 25 Years – You’d get less for Murder!    Reaching a 25-year milestone with a single organisation is a testament to unwavering dedication and commitment. Today, we celebrate exactly that -Sarah Taylor, Business Support Manager in our London team celebrates 25 years with us.   Sarah joined Anstey Horne way back when as our receptionist, where we were a grand total of 14. She has seen our teams go from strength to strength and talks so favourably of how she has witnessed those just starting out in their careers, getting chartered and are now Directors within the business.    As with all companies, you can’t stand still and so in 2019, we grew again to a new level, bringing in Building Surveying as a new service offering. Sarah’s role has also constantly evolved, her career progressing onto a secretarial role and then PA. Reflecting on her progress, we see her adaptability and thirst for learning new things, from picking up the phones and greeting our guests, to now supporting three whole teams situated in multiple offices, she is our fountain of knowledge, a rock for many and an invaluable asset to Anstey Horne.      Reflecting on this milestone Sarah says, “Reflecting on the day I joined, working for Lance and Graham, instantly I felt warm and safe. Anstey Horne has changed my life, from being a young 21 girl, who knew very little, to now, the ‘know it all’ 45 old woman (who still thinks she is 21) with a wonderful team around me. Anstey Horne is still like my family, with a support network like no other.   Jessica Watson, PA (and colleague to Sarah) “Sarah has been my rock as I’ve grown into my role at AH. She’s not only empowered me to believe in my potential but has also guided me through countless challenges. Congratulations on your incredible milestone Sarah! Your support has made all the difference.”   Graham North, CEO “It’s an incredible achievement to reach the landmark of 25 years with AH. Sarah’s ‘can do’ approach and her willingness to roll her sleeves up to get things done are just 2 of her many strengths. Sarah is such an integral part of the Team – and we’re very proud and fortunate that she’s been so committed to AH for over a quarter of a century!  Here’s to the next 25 years…………"    As Sarah celebrates this significant milestone, we look forward to many more years of collaboration and success. Her journey serves as a beacon of dedication, reminding us all of the impact one individual can have on an organisation.   Join us in congratulating Sarah on 25 years of outstanding service and in wishing her continued success in the years to come.

Anstey Horne at the RICS Dilapidations Conference 2025 Today we were delighted to attend the RICS Dilapidations Conference 2025 at Bishopsgate, London. The event provided an excellent opportunity to hear perspectives from fellow surveyors and legal professionals on recent case law, loss calculation methodologies, and emerging technological advancements in this dynamic area of the surveying industry. It was great to return to a in-person event rather than online! Overall, there was also a strong focus on communication, collaboration, and professionalism — values that are always at the heart of our services to clients. Our South West team celebrated a major milestone at Alumno ’s Hollis Wharf in Bath, topping out the student accommodation development set for completion in late summer 2025.   The milestone was attended by our South West Managing Director Derek Quinn, David Campbell from Alumno, AWW and representatives of the council, with the planning application being supported by the University of Bath and Bath Spa who welcome the need for PBSA to free up housing for local people.   The £13m Hollis Wharf development will deliver 120 high-quality studios and cluster bedrooms, modern amenities, and ground-floor commercial space, while also serving as a new storage and distribution hub for Mercy in Action—all within a sustainable, mixed-use community that complements Bath’s historic riverside setting.   Read more via https://lnkd.in/esEWdwqD #SouthWest #ToppingOut #StudentAccommodation #SouthWestProperty #Construction

  • 🚂 Teamwork, Heritage & Hard Work in Action! 🚂 This past weekend, a group of eleven colleagues from our Building Surveying, Cost Consultancy, and Project Management teams at Anstey Horne stepped away from our usual projects to take part in something truly special! We had the incredible opportunity to visit the world-famous Ffestiniog Railway, where we explored the remarkable conservation and interpretation project at Boston Lodge, the oldest working steam locomotive works in the world. Seeing the dedication, craftsmanship, and passion which has gone into the project, much of it from volunteers, was nothing short of inspiring! But we didn’t just observe—we got stuck in! At Rhiw Goch, we spent Friday afternoon and Saturday clearing huge blackthorn bushes that were obstructing the signal box’s view of the line. It was hands-on, hard work, but also a fantastic team-building experience. Along the way, we learned new skills, gained an appreciation for railway health & safety, and discovered muscles we didn’t even know existed! 💪 This was made all the better by a ride on the works train through the stunning Welsh countryside to get us to the otherwise inaccessible sites along the line. Most importantly, we worked together, supporting each other, looking out for one another’s safety and well-being, and proving once again that collaboration is at the heart of everything we do at Anstey Horne. A huge shout out to the entire team for their enthusiasm and effort as well as the team at the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway! Experiences like this remind us that whether we’re working on Fire Safety, Diagnosing Defects, Heritage Conservation, Cladding Remediation Projects, Building Maintenance, Neighbourly Matters or community initiatives, it’s the people and their passion that make the difference. #Teamwork #BuildingSurveying #ProjectManagement #CostConsultancy #HeritageConservation #LeadershipInAction #AnsteyHorne #FfestiniogRailway #FFWHR #Wales #Cymru #Collaboration 🚂✨
