Last month at the LIT Design Awards ceremony in London, I nearly fell down going up on stage—literally! Have this ever happened to any of you? 😅 I tripped over my dress and heels, and it was a close call. But this experience reminded me of an important lesson: adaptability and a good sense of humor can turn things around. Always remember to smile and save the moment 😊 - many didn’t even notice which I guess is a good thing! 🙌 Congratulations to all the winners who came to the historic Banking Hall in London.👏 This event was one of the most international I've attended recently, especially being introduced to many Asian-based designers. I enjoyed meeting new colleagues and catching up with people we’ve only communicated with virtually as well as connecting with fellow judges from various regions and disciplines. 🌍 🏆A special shoutout to the Emerging Lighting Product Designers 2022 and 2023 I had invited on stage. Elsa Gil Benito from Spain, who was awarded for her innovative Ma-ka lighting system created from biodegradable mycelium. And Arash Abbaszadeh, graduate of Hochschule Wismar in Germany, the submission which I found particularly poetic. 👏💎 As lighting professionals, supporting emerging talents is our duty. The passion and creativity of the younger generation inspire me constantly, and I invite everyone to keep empowering these bright minds to join our industry, challenge norms, and push our profession forward. If you haven’t already, check out the Silhouette Awards program created by Archifos and Parrot PR and Marketing —the first international mentorship platform in the lighting industry. This is where we nurture the next generation and you are all welcome to contribute!💜 Lastly, reflecting on being a LIT judge since 2020 has taught me so much. It’s about reading beyond the lines and evaluating how well designs deliver on their promises based on the references I can review. I wish I could teleport to every project, see it, and judge based on how light makes me feel. Sustainability, beautiful design, and strong narratives are crucial elements that I always consider when scoring.🧐 Overall, it was a wonderful evening filled with inspiration, dancing, great food, and a lot of positive energy from all participants. A huge thank you to the organizers for making it such a memorable event. Astrid Hebert, Hossein FARMANI, the entire team and my fellow talented Greek lighting designer Evina Diamantara from 18FIFTY, my guest for the ceremony ✨ Some more mentions here: Randy Reid - how is it possible every time we meet to have matching outfits randomly - i love it! Eleftheria Deko - such a pleasure meeting the team and celebrating your achievements together! Ryan Salim, and ERRELUCE lighting consultant team, wonderful meeting you all - Massive congratulations for your award for the IronPlate restaurant in Jakarta. Can’t wait to visit! #LightingDesign #LITAwards #Inspiration #Community #LightingIndustry #ArchifosReview
