ARB’s research into culture and misconduct found that misconduct is felt to be rooted in a chain of structural and cultural factors, including hierarchies that create power imbalances. Architects who prioritise collaborative workplaces told us about the ways in which they try to address issues around hierarchy. We work in the public interest to protect those who use or may use architects’ services and support architects through regulation. We keep a public register of 42,000+ architects which you can search online - architects-register.org.uk. Only those on this Register can legally call themselves an architect in the UK. We set the qualifications and experience required to be an architect, as well as standards of conduct and practice. We can investigate complaints about the conduct or practice of architects, and about someone calling themselves an architect illegally. We are also the UK’s Competent Authority for architects.
