The September-October issue of Architecture Today is here! This special issue is dedicated to the inaugural #RegenerativeArchitectureIndex (RAI) launched by Architecture Today and Architects Declare. It includes a selection of the most interesting and insightful responses from the 68 practices who took part in the Index along with commentary from the RAI assessors and leading names from the world of Regeneration.   Engineer Neil Thomas MBE, founder of Atelier One, reviews two #bamboo domes at the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary on the #IsleofWight. Back in September, we teamed up with Architecture Today to launch the pioneering Regenerative Architecture Index, designed as a means of benchmarking architects on regenerative projects, policies, working practices and actions. The RAI recognises the need for a built environment that isn’t merely reducing its negative impacts, but has positive impacts for today and the long term. The launch party was a fantastic event, and saw a host of incredibly imaginative regenerative hats, discussions on systems thinking with Brian Eno, speeches by RAI ambassadors and recognition of the innovative work already being done by the architects and designers who participated in the index. While the rest of us were off enjoying the party, Phoebe Robinson sat quietly in the corner, observing and capturing each moment and distilling the entire event into a single illustrative output. Phoebe’s brilliant illustrative animation conveys the key principles behind the RAI; the why, when and how, as well as exhibiting the top hats displayed on the night! The Lopota Jazz Club club in #Kakheti, eastern Georgia, by Design Avenue Studio eschews traditional forms and materials for something more experimental and expressive: a drum-like concrete and stone structure is enveloped by locally-sourced timber columns, which define the entrance and a large open-air atrium.
