Reinventing practice: dRMM – "Retrofitting our own studio gave us the opportunity to try out an intuitive way of working. We didn’t make all the decisions prior to starting but had a framework of ideas which we tested out." Architecture Today, Reinventing Practice Some architects want to save the world. Some want to build taller, shinier things. And some, the ones we're photographing, are rewriting the rules— they have an ambition to design buildings that regenerate the ecosystems they once displaced. These are the architects of the regenerative revolution. So you meet them. They’re fluent in biomaterials, energy flows, carbon sequestration, circular economies, and reuse—though perhaps a little less comfortable in front of the camera. You find the right spot, the right light, the right backdrop—because context matters. We are being invited into their world, to share their stories, to be part of their journey. And what a journey they're on. Their work isn’t just changing architecture; it’s shifting the relationship between cities and landscapes. Big ideas. But what does this revolution look like? Who are the people who are destined to carrying the weight of this project? What should that photograph look like? A daunting image to reflect a daunting prospect? Or something to reflect a future of hope, of optimism, of possibilities? —a balance of precision and poetry. A way of seeing that honors the elegance of ambition without losing the human urgency behind it. Perhaps it’s the tension between the inertia of commerce and the actual realities of running out of time to change. Perhaps it’s a rejection of the old tropes of the solitary genius in favor of something more collaborative, more fluid, more unfinished—a shift in paradigm, a shift in thinking. Because history is being written. And we won't, really, know how that works out for quite a while. So you take the picture. Quickly, before the moment gets too aware of itself. And if you're lucky—if the light is kind and the spirit true—you don’t just document a person. Together, you document the spirit of a revolution. The first of Architecture Today's 'Reinventing Practice' portraits are now online thank you; https://lnkd.in/e26hXEV4 Jerry Tate Orms studio 8FOLD #regenerative #architecture #architects #photographer #photography #portraiture #portraits
