Challenging current linear practices from extraction, to construction, to waste, Scottish startup Kenoteq is reimagining the brick by creating a climate conscious circular ecosystem. The K-Briq will play a pivotal part in the transition to a low carbon future as a product that requires minimal changes to existing construction methods habits and importantly, is beautiful. Read our latest Story to learn more about how it all started for Kenoteq and where it's heading: https://lnkd.in/eqHQE6xv 📸 Images (used in the post) credit to Kenoteq ✍ Article written by Vanessa Norwood ❤️ With special thanks to Lucy Black
About us
Founded in Glasgow, Scotland in 2020, Architextures has grown to become the world’s largest digital materials library. As a digital introduction to the material world, Architextures enables our growing community of over 500,000 architects and designers to find, create and download materials. Behind Architextures is a small team of architects, interior designers and software developers. Frustrated by the lack of an organised and high quality online materials resource, we created our own. With textures available in popular CAD and BIM formats, the Architextures web app is free for personal and educational use. Pro accounts are available for commercial use and more advanced features. Architextures uses real materials for a real-life application. If you're a manufacturer and would like to make your products accessible to designers around the world, get in touch.

♲ Circular brands spotlight ♲ At Surface Design Show, we met OTTAN, Revive Innovations Ltd and Koukos de Lab. 3 brands that stood out to us with their creative use of materials and commitment to circular design. 🧑🌾 OTTAN turns food and agricultural waste into high-performance bio-composite materials. They use things like eggshells, expired rice, pistachio shells and walnut shells to create their products. Depending on the material, between 50% and 84% of it is repurposed. 💿 Revive is solving the problem of CD and DVD waste with RE-CD, a fully recycled and recyclable material. Made entirely from discarded discs (without any harmful resins or binders) RE-CD is formed using heat and pressure, making it strong and eco-friendly. Each square meter of 10mm RE-CD repurposes about 1000 discs, keeping them out of landfills and incinerators. 🫒 Koukos de Lab creates Koukoutsi, a material made from the waste left over after olive oil is produced. They use olive pips (which are hard and light in colour) and olive cores (which are dark, soft, and crumbly, like soil). By turning this natural waste into something useful, Koukoutsi is a great example of how leftover materials can be given a second life. Discover their seamless textures in the Architextures library. 📸 Pic 1 credits to OTTAN 📸 Pic 2 credits to Revive 📸 Pic 3 credits to George Komvokis for Koukos de Lab
