Last month we were lucky enough to host 30 people for our Open Studios with Cowen+Partners and Karakusevic Carson Architects ↓ A huge thank you to Judith Topley (nee Kalyanvala), Hajir Kheder and Morgan MacGregor for helping organise these workshops and for all the practice mentors and attendees for being really engaging. After a busy period of outreach to around 50+ practices across London, we’ve started filling our calendar for at least two workshops a month. This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to the architecture community, specifically students and graduates who are thrust into the professional world with practically zero support. It’s also a great way of increase Social Value in London boroughs as we have done so with practices previously. If you’d like to host an Open Studio, or see how you can become a long-term collaborator, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Sana or email toscaleblog@gmail.com — #architecture #design #community

as architects, should you work for the public or private sector? Office S&M Architects is a powerhouse that does it all! we were lucky enough to host an Open Studio last June, bringing in our smallest participant group for some tailored conversations about portfolios, career paths and the practices’ design ethos it was an incredibly informative workshop and we definitely learnt a lot we’re looking to partner with small, young practices in London so if that sound like you, say hi below 👋🏼 — #architecture #design #community

models, models, models (no, not the fashion kind) architecture models are something that every student is fascinated with, even after you’re no longer a student! that was what the experience was like at Morris + Company when we hosted 16 individuals for our Open Studio last April Often, the art of architecture gets lost in the corporate office life of a practice and Morris + Company is totally opposite students and graduates were able to learn all about the design process, intentional material choices and sustainable practices whilst also gaining an insight into the interview process the highlight of the workshop? getting a tour of their studio, dotted with models in every nook and cranny we’d love to bring an Open Studio to other practices who are passionate about their craft in modelling, drawing or photography sounds like you? words from an attendee from our Open Studio with Alison Brooks Architects 💬 “It was great to attend an event where we were all in similar positions. Applying and getting rejected from job applications can feel extremely isolating and personal, however, it was nice to know that there are other people in the same boat and makes it a little easier not to take it personally. It is an insightful event and a great opportunity for those from BAME backgrounds who may not necessarily have the connections to attend events similar to this or even be able to tour and see architecture firms! Fab, would love to participate in another event!” this is exactly why we run Open Studios with practices who share the same values as us which practice would you like us to bring an Open Studio to? — #architecture #design #community

no gatekeeping here! Open Studio is all about providing opportunities to architecture students and designers on what practice life is like, behind closed doors it’s a great way to celebrate the work your practice does, including the studio culture, roles of younger team members and a chance to network we’re looking to partner with practices in London (not limited to architecture!) so please get in touch if this sounds like you 💌 email toscaleblog@gmail.com — #architecture #design #community
