We are thrilled to announce Assemble and Office Corr Higgins as the winners of our competition to undertake the feasibility study for the redevelopment of Timespan. Thank you to The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland for the incredible support, and to Museums Galleries Scotland and The National Lottery Heritage Fund for their generosity which made it possible. This project will reimagine Timespan building as a cohesive, #accessible, and #sustainable museum and cultural institution, enhancing facilities for visitors and staff, strengthening the connection with the local environment and materials, while also reducing the #ecological impact. Selected from a shortlist of 5 exceptional teams, Assemble and Office Corr Higgins’ interdisciplinary practice aligns perfectly with Timespan’s ethos: rooted locally, understood globally, committed to empowering communities and tackling global challenges through culture and creativity. A huge moment! We are so proud to have played a tiny part in this landmark project. Looking forward to the next steps! 🌱
We’ve spent years imagining this moment and now here we are. This is a community saying “yes” to development. So many “cookie cutter” developments come forward, like with Saxonvale, that are objected to by communities because they don’t deliver what they need. Frome has a good track record of being rebellious and pushing against conventions. This is a completely different model in the sense that it’s community-driven but with a team of professional professionals alongside us. So we’ve got the local knowledge, but with professionals that can deliver it. We recognise that the Saxonvale site is fundamental to Frome’s future, and with community input, we can make sure the development delivers the best possible outcomes for the community now and for generations to come. Our aim is to transform Saxonvale into a mixed-use urban regeneration project that puts Frome first at every stage. New entrepreneurial, flexible business space, will help ensure the long-term survival of our town centre. The future impact on Frome is central to all our thinking, and our plan will enhance the future resilience of Frome through community ownership. This will be the largest community-led development in the UK, leading to the complete revitalisation of the town. Other towns are watching our progress and our goal is to create a blueprint for future developments of this kind to be realised. We thank and recognise Somerset Council for making a bold move to sell us the site in this landmark decision. A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped and supported us. LifeLine Community Centre has received planning permission! ✨️ This project adapts and re-uses an inter-war warehouse on the Becontree Estate in Dagenham to be a community centre for LifeLine Church. LifeLine Church have deep roots in the area, having worked in Dagenham since their foundation in the mid-70s. Two local charities have been birthed from the work of the church, Community Resources and Lifeline Projects. Previously relying on rented and borrowed spaces, this project will be a great space to expand and develop activities with partners. We're working with Simple Works to conserve and adapt as much of the original building as possible, including the elegant metal trusses in the main warehouse and an unusual structure in one of the smaller buildings that ties the walls together. P3R Engineers Ltd and Max Fordham LLP have helped us create environmental and acoustic strategies to ensure the building can host gatherings while remaining passively ventilated. IKS CONSULTING LIMITED are doing a great job of helping make sure that the project is delivered in a timely and cost-effective fashion. We're looking forward to making this an incredible community asset that can serve the people of Dagenham for years to come.

Our colleague Emily Wickham is speaking at the Architectural Association on Friday at an event organised by Aude-Line Duliere and James Westcott on the subject of re-use alongside 6a, David Chipperfield Architects, Paye Stonework & Restoration Ltd and Stanton Williams. She'll be presenting our work with Local Works Studio Limited at Bramcote Park for the London Borough Of Southwark where we are looking to make a new park out of the materials of the existing one. Architecture Today have kindly recognised our ongoing work toward making planetary projects that support local communities, ecologies and economies whilst learning from international exchange and ideas. They've made us a 'front-runner' in their inaugural Regenerative Architecture Index (https://lnkd.in/ew_YZWDk) alongside some excellent practices, friends and collaborators. The assessors said: “An early fascination with fabrication and craft has evolved into a formidable track record of working with collaborators to develop locally-sourced, bioregional or transitional materials and products.” Thank you Architecture Today and here's to continuing the challenging work.
