We are excited to share that Eden Dock has been shortlisted for two prestigious awards! 🏆 The Pineapples Awards, Public Space Category 🏆 MIPIM Awards, Best Urban Regeneration Project Eden Dock, designed by Howells with landscape design by HTA Design for Canary Wharf Group, is a ground-breaking new public space with floating, interconnected pontoons and aquatic islands, sitting at the heart of Canary Wharf’s evolution. The contemporary insertions within the Grade I listed, 19th-century dock creatively engage the public with the waters’ edge, while enriching the ecology and biodiversity of Canary Wharf’s open water spaces. HTA Design were commissioned by Greystar to design their new London office space at The Gilbert. Designed by Giles Gilbert Scott in 1930, the historic setting provides an impressive backdrop for Greystar’s new European headquarters. The team was involved from early design proposals through to tender documentation and continued as design custodian once Morgan Lovell was appointed as the fit-out contractor. A client briefing change in the early on-site stages led to a shift in the ground floor layout and functionality, which HTA coordinated closely with Morgan Lovell to implement seamlessly. We also collaborated with U.S. based design firm Elizabeth Stuart, who oversee the Greystar brand's corporate design identity, leading the selection of key finishes and coordinating bespoke installations. These included custom hand-blown glass lighting from Venice and curated artwork by mid-century artist Halsey, all of which contribute to a workspace reflective of Greystar’s values and culture. The final design integrates impressive feature elements, including an expansive leather-clad reception desk, floor-to-ceiling walnut wall panelling, and a steel-and-stone spiral staircase. Developed from initial sketches through to completion in collaboration with a specialist contractor, the centrepiece spiral stair posed unique structural challenges. Its freestanding helical design required extensive coordination within the existing building, as well as a precise, sequential installation procedure to ensure the 12-ton structure was completed to the highest standard. The result for Greystar is a meticulously designed office that captures the global brand’s ethos, providing an elegant and inspiring space for their European operations.

Ben Derbyshire PPRIBA FRSA HonAIA discusses the potential for the revival of our high streets in his Housing Today column this month. He highlights that bringing more people back to live in town centres is key. Redeveloping outdated mid-century shopping centres into housing can increase footfall and support the traditional parades of high street shops. At HTA Design, we’ve taken this approach. In west London, we’re working to transform a struggling shopping mall into 1,500 mixed-tenure rented homes with integrated streetscapes, local retailers, bars and cafés. In Chatham, we collaborated with Historic England to map opportunities for sensitive infill in the High Street Heritage Action Zone. Excited to see College Road and Ten Degrees featured in Architectural Record! Designed by HTA Design with Tide and Vision, these projects highlight the efficiency and sustainability of modular construction. Standing at 440 and 540 feet tall, College Road and Ten Degrees are among the tallest modular buildings in the world. Built with reinforced concrete podiums and cores, each building incorporates materials like terra-cotta cladding, blending seamlessly into their urban surroundings. With 40–60 modules installed weekly, both projects were completed ahead of schedule in just over two years. As Simon Bayliss, HTA’s Managing Partner, notes: “We focus on quality, driving down costs by reducing defects and waste, with faster delivery and higher-performing systems.” To read the whole article press on the link below: https://lnkd.in/gVX75iT7 #HTADesign #ModularConstruction #CollegeRoad #TenDegrees #UrbanInnovation
