On this Anti-Slavery Day, we want to highlight the hidden crime of Modern Slavery. With around 50 million people still trapped in this terrible situation globally, it's crucial to take action. At Biffa, we have a zero-tolerance approach to Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. As part of our commitment to combat Modern Slavery, this year we commissioned the Slave-Free Alliance to benchmark our practices and develop a continuous improvement action plan. Join us this Anti-Slavery Day by connecting with your colleagues, suppliers, and customers and discussing how we can all make a difference. #HumanTraffickingAwareness #ModernSlavery #AntiSlaveryDay

We’re here to change the way people think about waste.
About us
Founded in London in 1912, Biffa is a leading UK nationwide integrated waste management business providing collection, treatment, recycling and technologically-driven energy generation services. Through the expertise of our people and investment in technology we promote and deliver sustainable waste management solutions. We provide an essential service to satisfy the business needs of our commercial, industrial and public sector customers throughout the UK, and help them to meet their legal obligations and corporate responsibility commitments. We employ 10,000 people and collect waste from thousands of businesses and millions of households across the UK each day. Our surplus food redistribution partnership with Company Shop Group, and our environmental work with BiffaAward and Waste Aid, also have wider benefits for the UK and beyond. Since 2002 we’ve reduced our carbon emissions by 70 per cent and aim to be net zero by 2050.

This Recycle Week, it's important for businesses and organisations to know about four key legislative changes that are on the way: – Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR): Producers will be responsible for their products throughout their entire lifecycle, encouraging better design and recycling. – Simpler Recycling: A standardised approach to waste collection will help make recycling easier and more effective for everyone. – Deposit Return Scheme (DRS): This new scheme aims to reduce litter and increase recycling by giving consumers an incentive to return their beverage containers. – Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs): Stricter rules will be put in place regarding harmful chemicals that can linger in the environment and impact human health. Are you prepared for these changes? Find out who needs to comply and how we can help you get ready: https://bit.ly/3SMFMee

On this International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, we’re proud to spotlight how we’re tackling food waste. Over the past year, through Company Shop Group, we’ve rescued 45,000 tonnes of surplus —equivalent to 108 million meals. That’s enough to feed the entire UK 1.6 times over! We help businesses shift surplus, damaged, or mislabelled stock by repackaging and selling at discounted prices. In doing so, less product was wasted, and more than £47m was paid back to our industry partners for the stock in the last year, supporting a circular system. 42% of SME respondents in England are unaware of how the Simpler Recycling regulations will impact their business. Under the new Simpler Recycling legislation, businesses in England with 10 employees and more must separate dry recyclables into dedicated containers and ensure food waste is collected separately starting from 31st March 2025. Discover how the new Simpler Recycling legislation will transform recycling in England here: https://bit.ly/3BbQIMx #SimplerRecycling #Legislation #Sustainability
