Resourcing the world.

About us

Veolia UK provides solutions for ecological transformation. We are a company of almost 14,000 employees, although we prefer to think of ourselves as “resourcers”. Every day across the country our “resourcers” design and deploy useful and concrete solutions, which help our customers fight against climate change, prevent pollution of our water and create a circular economy where nothing goes to waste. Every year, we serve around 1.8 million people through our municipal wastewater contracts. We complete over 400 million waste collections across our Local Authority contracts, serving over 3 million residential properties; and we treat over 1.5 million tonnes of commercial and industrial waste from our 85,000 private customers. We also produce over 560 MWe of renewable and low carbon electricity, to power over 1.3 million homes. Veolia UK is an exciting and innovative place to work, but don't just take our word for it - we were named as one of the top 10 'Very Big Organisations' to work for in The Sunday Times' Best Places to Work 2024. We're resourcing the world through our purpose of ecological transformation, and we're doing this by working together to constantly progress. We are reinventing the way things work to reduce our environmental impact and increase efficiency, whether in the reuse of wastewater or the recovery of waste, such as plastics. At the same time, we anticipate the needs of tomorrow with innovative solutions that will decarbonise our energy and heating demands. We do this through the development of microgrids and energy management through our Hubgrade solution, which optimises the management of resources using digital and artificial intelligence. We are driven by optimism and passion, not to see the world as it is, but how it should be; and we are tenacious in our efforts to achieve our goals. These aren't just empty words.

  • Waste into Watts! ⚡ Transforming wastewater into enough energy to power 800 homes every day is one of the many innovative approaches Veolia is taking at Seafield Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW). Our new liquid waste import service for Central Scotland businesses is key to this innovative approach. By using Anaerobic Digestion (AD) we break down the organic matter in your liquid waste to produce biogas, a renewable energy source. This biogas is utilised in our Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system to generate electricity and heat, allowing us to produce 108% of the facility's energy needs. The excess energy is sent to power the local community, turning your waste into a valuable resource and closing the sustainability loop 🌱 This service not only boosts our energy generation capacity but also provides Central Scotland businesses with a reliable and sustainable solution for their non-hazardous liquid waste disposal. It's a win-win for the environment and local businesses 🌍 This sustainable solution contributes to both Edinburgh's circular economy and Scotland's Net Zero targets! #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #CircularEconomy

  • We’ve recently been appointed to the Waste Management Services Framework Agreement with APUC in our continued commitment to accelerating the sustainability of the public sector. This framework provides essential and comprehensive waste management services to Scottish Higher and Further Education bodies, supporting the sector through complex procurement processes enabling them to meet legal compliance and demonstrate transparency and value-for-money as we strive for a circular economy. With a focus on waste minimisation and recovering recyclable materials, our position on this framework allows us to support the education sector on their journey towards net zero targets, as recycling typically saves 50-80 percent of the carbon associated with virgin material use. Fantastic before and after photos from contractor Veolia show the transformation at Eastbourne District General Hospital 🏥 The 1970s NHS hospital has been updated and transformed thanks to an ambitious decarbonisation project that has moved heating and hot water away from gas. To support the project, the trust was awarded £27.9 million in funding through Phase 3a of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. Funding is delivered by Salix on behalf of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. A multi-million-pound investment project, which aims to make Good Hope Hospital a greener, more efficient hospital, has been completed. The hospital has undertaken a major project, with the aim of being one of the first net-zero hospitals in the UK. The project was made possible thanks to funding from Salix, under the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, which it was awarded in 2022. The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme is run by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and is delivered by Salix. UHB was awarded £35.6 million as part of the scheme to reduce its carbon footprint and ensure its sites become more energy efficient. This has allowed Good Hope Hospital to install heat pumps, commission a new low-temperature-hot-water (LTHW) system and decommission the existing steam distribution system, amongst other things. Read more about the project via the link in the comments below 👇

  • Starting 2025 by proudly sponsoring Bupa Dental Care UK’s live conference! 🦷♻️ We had the privilege of joining over 1,000 Bupa delegates at the ICC Wales to showcase our innovative recycling solutions. It was the perfect opportunity for us to help healthcare professionals with all their Simpler Recycling questions, and to help us understand the unique waste and recycling challenges they’re facing. To help them navigate this upcoming transformation in waste management, we introduced our HUB portal to practice managers, demonstrating how it can help them better understand and manage their recycling and waste processes. The event was also a fantastic opportunity to gain insights into Bupa’s inspiring Savannah 2027 strategy and explore how we can align our efforts to support their ambitious environmental goals. It also reinforced our commitment to collaborative partnerships that drive meaningful, positive impact for the planet. #SustainabilityPartnerships #SustainableFuture #Collaboration #Innovation #SimplerRecycling

  • We’re bolstering biodiversity across our sites thanks to our Eco Plans initiative. Launched early last year, this initiative supports small, often urban sites to protect and enhance their natural environments and we’re already witnessing the benefits, not just for nature but for the wellbeing of our colleagues across the country. Our teams have shown remarkable creativity and commitment, especially in areas with limited green space. From Durham to Portsmouth, the Eco Plans are capturing the many diverse ways our sites are being transformed into havens for flora and fauna. Some of our greatest biodiverse-rich sites include: • Cambridge depot's unconventional planters and bug hotels • Woodlands IVC's protected bluebell-rich woodland • Dagenham Plastics Facility's wildlife-friendly approach to landscaping • Croydon depot's circular economy-inspired garden using broken wheelie bins as planters! This initiative proves that with ingenuity and dedication, even small spaces can make a big difference to our environment. We are proud of our teams and excited to see how these Eco Plans continue to evolve and benefit our local ecosystems! #Sustainability #GreenInnovation
