There's still time to take part in the consultation on proposals for improvements to Wakefield Road and Tong Street. The proposals, which cover a combined 3.6km stretch from the junction with Croft Street in the city centre to the Tong Leadership Academy School, aim to create a better-connected transport route that improves traffic flow, public transport reliability and make it safer and easier for people to walk, wheel or cycle to local shops, schools and amenities in a healthier and more pleasant environment. Work on improvements to a two-mile stretch of towpath between Silsden and Kildwick is progressing well. The scheme aims for more puddle-free journeys, as well as improving accessibility for wheelchair and pushchair users on this stretch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal The improvements being made include: • Durable, all-weather ‘self-bind’ towpath surface • Better access for people with mobility difficulties and for pushchair users • Widening the towpath (where possible) to assist towpath use, while retaining grass verges, native plants and trees to support wildlife habitats • Historic canal mileposts will be refurbished and reset • Improved canal side parking area in Kildwick This improvement scheme is a partnership with Canal & River Trust, Bradford Council, North Yorkshire Council, York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority and West Yorkshire Combined Authority. In West Yorkshire, funding comes from West Yorkshire’s Active Travel Fund and is grant funding provided by Active Travel England to support local transport authorities with producing cycling and walking facilities. In North Yorkshire the funding is from York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Net Zero Fund, which comes from the UK Government. Invent Interior Solutions Ltd is re-shoring production at its Keighley factory, following investment including a £94,238 grant from the #KeighleyTownsFund. The second-generation family-run business, based on Dalton Lane, specialises in manufacturing fabrics for the window blind market.
