A huge congratulations to all our teams who were recognised at the Mineral Products Association Quarries and Nature 2025 Restoration and Biodiversity Awards on Wednesday. We were thrilled to receive commendations for our phased restoration to ponds, pools, wet grassland and woodland at our Cambusmore quarry and for landscape scale at our Powmyre quarry. Both sites also received special commendations – Powmyre, for mixed restoration to agriculture, recreation and nature conservation, and Cambusmore – for sensitive restoration in the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. Our North Cave site received a special commendation for the partnership working with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust at North Cave Wetlands, and our Mullaghglass site were commended in the planned restoration category. Mullaghglass also received a special commendation for outstanding community engagement. It’s great to see the fantastic work our local teams have achieved and how collectively as an industry, we’re playing our part in nature recovery and delivering biodiversity gain across our sites in the UK. We were proud to support the Peak District National Park Foundation in delivering some ‘extreme tree planting’ recently! As a Gold Peak Partner, this gives our teams access to several volunteering days each year, to assist the foundation in delivering improvements to the park across a broad range of activities. Over the course of the day, our cement leadership team, along with colleagues from our production department at Hope Works, managed to plant in the region of 250 to 300 trees on some very steep sloping woodlands in the Hope Valley. Over the next couple of years this particular woodland will require around 8,000 trees planting, so there's plenty left for other volunteers to do! #volunteering #teamwork #nature #conservation

Earlier this week we had the pleasure of hosting Class 3 from the local Griffydam Primary School on a tour of our Breedon and Cloud Hill quarries. The children have been learning all about rocks and how different types of stone are formed, so it was a great opportunity for them to swap their classroom for the quarry for a morning and enjoy a guided tour around site! This included a guided tour of the upper level at Cloud Hill, including the primary crusher and concrete and asphalt plants, a tour around our bagging operation at Breedon quarry where the children also got to see our Breedon Golden Amber Gravel being produced and look at the various types of decorative aggregate we produce and sell. They also got to hear more from one of our geologists and have a photo with our very own mascot, Rocky! A huge thanks to our team for making this happen. We were delighted to assist the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority with the creation of a section of upgraded Coast to Coast Path National Trail. Once completed, this will provide a great asset and much improved route for walkers to use. The location of Hartley Quarry at the foot of the fells provided a perfect drop off point for the stone flags! We recently completed a major project to replace the Traylor primary gyratory crusher at our Hope Cement Works. The original crusher had been in service since 1952, crushing over 110 million tonnes of mineral during its 72-year lifespan. A huge thanks to everyone who played a major part in this project – to the Project and Quarry teams at Hope Works, FLSmidth, suppliers of the new 1,250tph primary gyratory crusher, Quarry Manufacturing & Supplies (QMS) Tideswell Welding Services and Process Control Services, our lead partners in the project, and to the rest of our team of trusted contract partners.
