Congratulations to the Western Gateway team for an excellent convention at the ICC Wales this week. Fantastic line up of speakers, attendees and businesses and a great platform to launch its 'Plan for Sustainable Growth'. Our chief executive Ed Rowberry took part in an insightful panel discussion on investment with colleagues from the British Business Bank, Development Bank of Wales, Cardiff Capital Region & University of Bath. The Western Gateway's recent report shows that the pan-region could be the fastest growing region outside of London in the next five years, adding £11bn a year to the UK economy. A vital component of this growth will be about leveraging more public and private sector investment into Western England and South Wales through our place-based impact investment model, to deliver tangible social and environmental outcomes across our local communities. We look forward to collaborating further with partners and helping the area achieve its full potential.
And that's it - The 2024 Convention for the Western Gateway has come to an end. A huge thankyou to everyone who took part and supported the event to make this possible. With 600 businesses, charities, academics and government's taking part, the event was the perfect launch pad for "Our Plan for Sustainable Growth". Prepared in partnership with our 28 local authorities, business and academia, the Plan demonstrates how our area can build on our potential to be the fastest growing economy outside of London to deliver on Keir Starmer's National Mission for Growth. This includes several opportunities where both UK and Welsh Government can partner with the Western Gateway to: 📈 Increase investment - bridging the £3-9m gap for businesses trying access private finance in our area 💡 Support innovation - use our status as Europe's most advanced cyber cluster to support our world leading expertise in high-tech industries. 🚄 Connect communities - support the roll out of Western Gateway Rail Deal and Project Gigabit to better reach communities at risk of being left behind. 🥇 Raising our profile - ensure our communities are able to shout about the great work taking place across our geography on the world stage. Once again, a huge thank you to all our sponsors for ensuring yesterday could take place at the fantastic ICC Wales. Including SSE Energy Solutions, Associated British Ports, Cardiff Capital Region , GW4 Alliance, Ogi, Browne Jacobson, AtkinsRéalis, Deloitte and Bristol & Bath Regional Capital. We are excited to share how Bristol's Local Access Programme has helped build our city's diverse social economy! From January 2023 to June 2024 we worked with 90 unique Bristol social enterprises, providing training and skills, consultancy, peer relationship brokerage and bespoke one-to-one support. Many enterprise clients engaged with multiple programme elements, with 127 support interventions carried out overall. 81% of those engaging with the LAP were enterprises serving communities of disadvantage with the majority rooted in the communities they serve. You can read the full report at https://lnkd.in/ePrDFqxG The Local Access Programme is led by Bristol & Bath Regional Capital and funded by Access: The Foundation for Social Investment. The Bristol LAP Delivery Partners are Black South West Network; Bristol & Bath Regional Capital; School for Social Entrepreneurs in the North West and Voscur, with ACH (Ashley Community Housing) and Street2Boardroom participating as Advisory Partners.

Our chief exec Ed Rowberry has enjoyed a whistle stop couple of days at The Labour Party conference to understand more about the emerging direction of the UK Government. The following became clear from hearing the discussions: - Investment, from both public and private sources, is going to be a key policy tool to rebuild the foundations of the UK economy and deliver inclusive and sustainable economic growth. - Devolution will also play a key part in this approach to investment - tailoring solutions to local and regional need. - The journey to Net Zero and the decarbonisation of the energy system remains a priority of the government. With the need to create good jobs in the process. - The need to accelerate the provision of housing remains clear, with the many supply side issues such as planning in need of reform. BBRC will continue to play its part in supporting these important missions of government to improve outcomes for people, communities and the environment in the South West of England. #LabourPartyConference #LabourConference24

We're absolutely delighted that the West of England Combined Authority Committee took the decision on Friday to initiate the £100m Green Growth West Impact Fund. The level of investment we need to hit the region's Net Zero, climate and nature recovery targets means that we need to introduce new delivery models to meet our ambitions and accelerate action. The £10m from the Mayoral Combined Authority will provide the much-needed cornerstone capital investment, helping to support net zero business growth, the creation of 'green' jobs and ensure the region hits its 2030 targets. The MCA investment will be used to leverage private investment by providing confidence to investors and showing the region's commitment to the green economy. You can read the full committee report in the link below. Many thanks to West of England Mayor Dan Norris, Tony Dyer, Bristol City Council, Ian Boulton, South Gloucestershire Council, and Kevin Guy, Bath & North East Somerset Council. #netzero #climateemergency #naturerecovery #greeninvestment
Mayor Dan Norris has announced a major boost to the green economy with a £100 million investment fund! This fund will drive renewable energy projects across the region. This could mean cleaner, cheaper energy for up to 36,000 homes, helping households save £6 million on bills over the next 12 years. Partnering with BBRC, the project will attract private investment and help the region take the lead in green energy efforts.
