Spotlighting support our older customers💙 We're writing to 2 million customers who are at or approaching pension age to encourage take up of Pension Credit. There are over 750,000 older people who are eligible for the benefit, worth £3,900 a year on average - and it unlocks winter fuel payments. There's also help available for low-income pensioners through the British Gas support schemes which include grants, matched debt repayments and non-repayable credit for prepayment customers. In total, we've put in place £140 million of support for households struggling with the cost of living – the biggest voluntary support package provided by an energy company. Our Net Zero team had the opportunity to spend the day volunteering at the RSPCA Woodside animal centre 🐈🐕 To give back to the amazing staff who dedicate so much of their time and energy caring for the animals, the team was tasked with enhancing the staff room. They painted the walls, built some new tables from scaffold planks, and mounted a TV all to create a more relaxing space! A huge thank you to our volunteers and the staff at RSPCA Woodside who dedicate their time to such an important cause. We've committed to inspire our colleagues to give 100,000 days to build inclusive communities by 2030 as part of our People & Planet Plan. What do you make of the energy transition? How confident are you that the UK can reach net zero? We've today published the third annual British Gas Net Zero Action Rankings, which reveal the nation's attitudes towards hashtag #NetZero and how they've changed over the past year. 🌡️ Climate change is still seen as one of the most pressing issues of our time by a majority (57%) of people. 👎 Only 32% of respondents believe the country will meet its net zero target by 2050. 🏡 Insulation is the most popular green upgrade (74%), closely followed by triple glazing (55%). We joined British Gas Energy Trust at a recent roundtable in Newcastle. Representatives from Citizens Advice joined organisations from across the north east to discuss interventions that could support those experiencing fuel poverty. A common theme was the importance of providing face-to-face support. Many of the frontline organisations shared instances of successful intervention after taking services into well-known community hubs, as individuals felt more comfortable to ask for help in a familiar space. The Trust is now 20 years old, and since 2004 has contributed over £200 million in donations, helping more than 2.2 million people across the UK. Find out more here👉 https://lnkd.in/dxAzFnM

Time to check in with our community champions... 🏆💙🙌 As we head into autumn our volunteers show no signs of slowing down! 🍲 Teams from Operational Excellence recently spent a meaningful day volunteering at a local Food Bank hub, helping to organise and prepare food shipments for regional facilities. 🖌️ Our West Fife engineers returned to the Seamab Care Campus to carry out much needed painting, building sheds and other DIY tasks. 👟 It was wet 13.1 miles in the North East as Team Centrica braved the weather to compete in the Great North Run, raising funds for National Energy Action who work to end fuel poverty in England. 🌊 Sayf Al -Hadi's Change Team delivered change with a difference as they took part in a litter pick organised in partnership with the Marine Conservation Society. Each piece of rubbish collected was submitted to the M.C.S. nationwide data survey, contributing to the welfare of our oceans, and sea creatures.
