The UK is a global centre for the innovation and development of connected and self-driving vehicle technologies.
CAM Testbed UK is the only place worldwide with the capability to take ideas from concept to development both virtually and physically, all within a 3-hour drive. The UK’s comprehensive and integrated facilities are world-leading, with a unique ability to cross-share data and a collaborative way of working.
It’s not every day that we manage to bring together such iconic features within a measurement campaign, but this has to be amongst the most memorable and spine tingling test LaVision GmbH has ever carried out!!
• The 𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 surviving #Etype#Jaguar – 9600HP
• The 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 and most repeatable indoor test facility in the world – the Catesby Tunnel
• The 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 technology in Aerodynamic Testing – #LaVision#FlowMaster
Like a scene from Back to the Future, Philip Porter thundered along the Catesby Tunnel in his fantastic E-type reaching the test speed as he pierced the #RingOfFire! Triggering the acquisition sequence, three Photron high speed cameras recorded images of the Helium Filled Soap Bubbles (#HFSB) cloud illuminated by the Litron LDY high speed laser (Litron Lasers Ltd.) . A truly unique moment bringing together state-of-the-art #PIV technology with an iconic motor vehicle 🏎️ famed for its aerodynamic design in this unique Catesby Projects test facility!
More details coming soon- stay tuned!

Are you a current/prospective UK supplier into the connected and automated mobility (CAM) sector? If so, please take a moment to fill in Zenzic's survey - it closes on 31 October. This report is one of the main sources we use to understand the UK supply chain.
It's really important that Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles gets as clear a picture as possible of what the UK CAM supply chain looks like (who, what, and where) so that we understand how best we can support it. What are our strengths? Where can we lead? Where are we not competitive? What are the barriers/opportunities? Supply chain and SME support remains a very high priority.

NEAA Celebrates 10 Years of Driving Innovation and Growth in the North East Automotive Sector!
Today marks the 10th anniversary of the North East Automotive Alliance (NEAA), the UK's largest automotive cluster. In this video, we hear from members and the NEAA Board about the benefits they've gained over the years and how to make the most out of being a part of this collaborative industry-led cluster.
As we enter a new decade, we look forward to continuing this momentum and our dedication to fostering a competitive and sustainable environment for businesses that thrives on collaboration and trust.

Today marks a momentous day for the NEAA as we celebrate 10 years as a legal entity.
The NEAA was born on the 17th October 2014 from a collaborative project to deliver UKTI trade services across the North East. At the time automotive in the North East didn’t have a cluster. Interest was gathered from across the regions automotive sector, particularly with plant managers from OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.
It was recognised that my cluster management excellence experience was the missing link to support the vast automotive experience. However, once the idea of me joining as CEO was discussed the opportunity was to great to miss and I had every confidence it would be a success. Following an interview with our now Chairman, Matt Boyle, I was offered the position of CEO.
A high-level strategy was developed with a small group. Then working closely with Kevin Fitzpatrick, who became the first NEAA Chairman, we were able to secure some seed funding. This was matched with membership fees and ERDF funds to enable us to launch at a sufficient scale to accelerate the development of the NEAA.
Following months of work with the board, the NEAA was officially launched in the March 2015 as an industry led and membership-based cluster to support the sustainable economic growth and competitiveness of the North East automotive sector.
We quickly established a knowledgeable and credible team bringing in Debbie Fletcher, Laura Gage, Stuart McGivern and Eddie Leng. Our initial activities focused around growing the network with core businesses, supporting SMEs through a ERDF programme and establishing skills and business competitiveness working groups.
Our impact was immediate; withing 11 months of launch we were officially the largest automotive cluster in the UK and in March 2016, in a record time, we were awarded the Bronze Label for cluster management excellence. The evaluation indicated that the NEAA would meet the quality indicators for “Cluster Management Excellence Label GOLD label”.
In 2019 we set out our vision for the NEAA to be the catalyst through which the North East becomes the location of choice for automotive investment in Europe, and that the region will be recognised as a true automotive powerhouse with a very dynamic, forward looking and competitive supply chain, and strengths research, development and innovation in new automotive technologies and manufacturing processes.
Today, we continue to be the largest automotive cluster in the UK and we are widely recognised as an exemplar cluster not just in the UK but across Europe too. Our member companies find benefit from the leadership and co-ordination of activities of mutual benefit.

Solihull & Coventry Automated Links Evolution (SCALE) is an exciting new project aimed at better understanding the role self-driving vehicles might one day play within our future transport system.
Building on previous learning, SCALE will demonstrate and further develop understanding around connected automated mobility (CAM) services. It will look specifically at the commercial viability of self-driving operations, passenger experience and operational factors such as insurance and vehicle maintenance.
The collaborative intuitive is being delivered by a consortium led by Solihull Council, including both the University of Warwick and Coventry University, TfWM, the NEC, Coventry City Council, Direct Line Group and automated vehicle simulation specialists IPG and dRISK.
