Style and substance: this month’s The Guardian design news features OnceMore® joining forces with Ethiopian designer Feben during London Fashion Week next month, highlighting the collaboration as positive change in the industry. “Beyoncé has worn her clothes and she was the Isabella Blow scholar at Central Saint Martins. Feben has worked with artisans in Accra, Ghana, and her structural silk designs have also shown her deep fascination with fabric. But for her LFW collection, Feben will work with OnceMore, a Swedish pioneer in circular fashion and sustainable textile production. OnceMore is the world’s first large-scale process for recycling blended fabrics, as well as wood from responsibly managed forests which is used to produce high-quality textile pulp. Feben said she was drawn to the company when she discovered it was based close to where she grew up in Sweden.” Alice Fisher Keep reading: https://lnkd.in/eeicVaYm

With fashion week season upon us, we’re exploring pioneers in this space. Fashion is one of the biggest polluters on this earth, but how can this change? OnceMore® is at the forefront of this with Sweden’s biggest forestry group behind them, mixing textile waste with renewable wood pulp, offering cutting-edge industrial levels of material waste. Recently discussing its innovations at Future Fabrics Expo in London, OnceMore® have a high fashion collaboration on the horizon at London Fashion Week this September. All eyes are on Copenhagen Fashion Week (5-8 August), which sees brands like Marimekko sending new collections down the runway. The Finnish company’s latest sustainable launch will be available in September, the ‘Resonance’ series: its first bag made entirely of a new plant based Vireo material developed by Hemp Bio under the Kvadrat Innovation Lab. In the meantime, we’re reading Bella Webb’s story - why is it so hard for next-gen materials to scale? https://lnkd.in/eBNy3FvH #fashion #fashionweek #innovation

What makes a place feel like home? The art of creating a sense of belonging is often a challenge for designers and developers, and for people who rent their homes, it can be even more pertinent. For Way of Life, a contemporary residential brand that creates rental apartments in London and across the UK, a home should always be a place that feels like your own, no matter how temporary. The belief that design is a way of achieving the often evasive sense of community and connection has led Way of Life to many of its creative collaborations. The goal is to offer design-led living to residents. For its latest project, The Sessile, stylish apartments overlooking Walthamstow wetlands, Way of Life enlisted the help of Linda Boronkay, former design director of Soho House, to bring her flair for bold colours, textures and atmosphere to the space. As part of our campaign for the newly launched project, we focussed on the bold design details that set the space apart from other buildings in the city. One of our favourite areas is the rooftop Orangery, a light-filled spot which residents can use for working or relaxing during the day, or for evening drinks and dinners. Inspired by members clubs and world-class hotels, The Sessile feels like a destination in its own right while incorporating seamlessly into the neighbourhood. This week, Linda sat down with the Evening Standard to discuss her approach to designing her first rental project: https://lnkd.in/ezWEQnbr 🖋 👆 Liam Johnson 📸 Tom Griffiths and Way of Life
