NEW REPORT | The Rise of the TikTok Cities X is no longer a factor for cities looking to succeed on social media. Our new research reveals how social media trends are shaking up Europe’s Most Talked About Cities. Key insights include: 💡TikTok, LinkedIn and Instagram have surged in influence and now drive 36% of discussions – up from just 4%. 💡Berlin, Marseille and Edinburgh are among several “rising stars” expected to undergo significant increases in online visibility. 💡Paris tops ING’s Most Talked About City rankings for the second time, driven by “video-viral” Olympics content on emerging social media platforms. These shifts are reshaping ING's long-standing rankings of Europe’s Most Talked About Cities, now in its seventh year. Our focus continues to be on understanding how conversations are evolving across European cities and what cities need to do to stay relevant and attract investment over the next five years. We kicked off our Innovative Breakfast Club series in partnership with CREtech with a fascinating panel discussion on how we can shape playful cities for children and young people. Joining CREtech’s Emily Wright, we heard from industry leaders Magali Thomson, project lead for placemaking at Great Ormond Street Hospital; Dinah Bornat, author of 'All to play for: How to design child friendly housing' and director at ZCD ARCHITECTS LTD; and, Kate Honey, group community advocacy lead at Landsec. Catch up on what you missed: 🌍 Human-centred design needs to be at the forefront. With 25% of our population under 18, it's crucial to prioritise the needs and experiences of young people in the built world. 🧩 Experimentation and exploration are key components in developing spaces where children can safely practice risk-taking, helping them build confidence and resilience as they grow into adulthood. 👨👩👧👦 Intergenerational spaces are essential for fostering community and play for all ages. These spaces encourage interaction and connection between different generations, creating a more inclusive and vibrant community. 💡 We need to rethink economic value in the context of placemaking. It's not just about financial returns; it's about creating future-proof destinations that enrich lives. Thank you to our panellists and the audience for such an inspirational discussion. How do you balance growing a social media following of over 250,000 with a budding career in architecture? We had the pleasure of hosting Noris Obijiaku, aka. MrChuck, at our Shoreditch office. He shared his incredible journey of balancing content creation alongside his work as a Part I Architecture Assistant, all while building a vibrant community on TikTok and Instagram. Noris gave us a deep dive into how he’s using his platform to open the world of architecture to new audiences, shedding light on the transformative power of design in communities and advocating for quality social housing. The way we communicate about architecture and the built world is constantly changing, frequently responding to the need to reach new – often younger and more diverse – audiences. With his authentic style and variety of content from hand-drawn sketches to showcasing architecture’s untold stories, Noris is truly changing the game. #architecture #contentcreation #socialmediainfluencer #designmatters
