We are thrilled to be featured in this month’s edition of Ground Engineering Magazine. CGL Director Mark Creighton and Principal Engineer Joseph Birnie have spoken all about our 2023 GE Award-winning project, Preston Road Brighton 🏗 CGL used the observational method to design out piles and develop a new foundation solution in chalk ground conditions, on a residential development in Brighton. ‘CGL’s basement substructure redesign and its method for observationally logging the open pit chalk excavation saved the client about £2M and eliminated about 1,000 piles on the project. This amounted to 4,270m3 of concrete, saving 334t of steel and 20km of piles.’ You can read more about the sustainable design and cost savings of this project in Ground Engineering’s October 2024 issue ➡ https://lnkd.in/eEy3TfkR #groundengineering #sustainability #observationalmethod

Today is the day! 🎉 We are very excited to be attending the Ground Engineering Magazine Awards 2024 this evening. Our final shortlisted category is UK Project with a Geotechnical Value of between £500k and £1m for our project ‘Victoria Heights, Exeter’ What appeared to be “A Simple Greenfield Site” at the surface, ended up being anything but beneath the ground! During this project, CGL re-strategised and re-designed earthworks, highways and foundation design for the site. We overcame many geotechnical challenges on this project, and utilised a combination of desk-based studies, GIS systems, engineering assessment and detailed analysis to justify the acceptability of the proposed measures. This was a collaborative and sustainable ground engineering solution that used a versatile and dynamic team to bring a high level of skill and expertise from the across UK and internationally to this ‘local’ rural Devon project. Good luck to the finalists in all categories, we look forward to seeing you tonight! 🥂 #geotechnical #groundengineering #GEAwards2024
