We recently shared our work on using JESS automated western blotting to track phospho-proteins in a signaling pathway. By leveraging biomarkers, we developed a screening cascade that identified drug compounds with high specificity and potency, crucial for advancing therapies with minimal side effects. This approach ensured the targeted inhibition of a signaling pathway branch, offering a more refined and effective therapeutic option. Our findings pave the way for successful transitions from in vitro to in vivo studies, reinforcing the drug development pipeline. What a fantastic final day at ACS Denver. A full-day session in a packed lecture theatre saw the first time disclosures of 13 new assets under development, many of them already in clinical trials. There was real excitement with hundreds of chemists taking photos and frantically scribbling structures and notes! There's a real diversity of structure, function, and modes of action in the structures revealed and I hope my Discovery Chemistry colleagues at Charnwood Discovery enjoy this snapshot:

Another fantastic couple of days at the ACS Denver meeting. Continuing the theme of process safety we had an excellent talk from Anna Dunn on the importance of DEIR (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Respect) in helping to promote safety culture in the workplace. Advice for lab colleagues, team leaders, and safety professionals showed that we all have our part to play. Delivered by compatriot Laura Cunningham, the reaction development, problem solving, and eventual successful implementation on 100 g scale was an impressive feat. You can read more here in this open access OPR&D paper: https://lnkd.in/e53prXa3 To close off today, Mark Levin captivated a packed lecture room to tell us of his teams incredible successes in the field of "skeletal editing". Back in 2018 during a post doc position, I joked with lab mates about how fantastic it would be if we could just insert Nitrogen or delete Carbon atoms from aromatic rings at will . Little did we know, Mark and his team were already breaking ground with the methodology to achieve just this. Today, Mark was a recipient of the prestigious Peter Cope award in recognition of these achievements.
