Managing Director EMEA - CLM Search

An overview of key players in the Battery cell manufacturing sector (large companies with >$1b valuation as of Dec 23) (part 1) 🔋 Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited – in April 2024, CATL unveiled Shenxing PLUS - the world's first LFP battery that achieves a range above 1,000 kilometers with 4C superfast charging, just 8 months after the launch of the Shenxing superfast charging battery in August 2023. BYD – BYD is the world's leading producer of rechargeable batteries: NiMH batteries, Li-ion batteries and NCM batteries. The ultra-safe BYD Blade Battery prioritises safety while delivering exceptional driving stability and performance. LG Energy Solution – LG Energy Solution’s $5.5 Billion Stand-Alone Battery Manufacturing Complex Project in Arizona is well underway, with completion and start of production expected in about 2 years time, with full-scale hiring for thousands of new jobs to begin in H2 2025. EVE Energy Co.,Ltd. – debuted their extreme fast charging technology at the 1st SNE Battery Day in South Korea. In the application stage, the 50Ah cells developed by EVE Energy reach 60% charge in just 6 minutes, reducing the charging time by 80% and increasing energy density by 18%. This achievement allows a 6-minute charging for a 500-mile driving range. Northvolt - Northvolt raises $5 billion to enable expansion of first circular gigafactory in the western world - the largest green loan raised in Europe to date will not only facilitate the expansion of Europe's first homegrown gigafactory, Northvolt Ett, but also the realization of Northvolt's ambitious plans for battery recycling. Samsung SDI Battery Systems – just announced it has completed an agreement with General Motors to build a joint EV battery factory in Indiana, US. The two companies will invest about $3.5bn to build a battery cell manufacturing plant with an annual production capacity of 27GWh initially. Panasonic – Panasonic has supplied batteries for a cumulative total of three million EVs and is one of the leading manufacturers of lithium-ion batteries in North America. Farasis Energy – Farasis Energy developed power batteries with strong temperature adaptability. They are not afraid of high-temperature environments, exhibit super stable high-rate discharge, and the temperature of a single battery cell only increases by about 5°C. GOTION HIGH-TECH – In May 2024, Gotion High-tech unveiled its’ ultra-fast charging G-Current battery, which is designed with 5C super-fast charging technology, enabling 80% energy replenishment with 9.8 minutes of charging and 90% energy replenishment with 15 minutes of charging. This solution can be applied to their entire range of battery applications.   It’s great to see some huge investments being made by these market-leading businesses, with a strong focus on fast charging, range and safety!   Stay tuned for part 2! 🔋 👀 #CLMSearch #CLMEurope #CLMAmericas #Batteries

Chinese autonomous driving startup WeRide has reached a significant milestone, receiving approval from California's Public Utilities Commission to test its driverless vehicles with passengers. This three-year permit is a crucial step for WeRide as it expands its operations in the U.S., particularly in San Jose and nearby areas, with 12 active vehicles. This approval comes amidst the company’s pursuit of a potential $5 billion valuation ahead of a New York IPO, despite challenges such as impending U.S. regulations on China-developed systems. Operating in a competitive and heavily regulated environment, WeRide joins the ranks of other players like Alphabet's Waymo and General Motors' Cruise, who are also navigating the complex landscape of autonomous vehicle testing and commercialization in the U.S. While regulatory hurdles and public concerns remain, this development signals WeRide's commitment to advancing autonomous mobility in a challenging market. As the autonomous driving industry continues to evolve, WeRide’s progress in California will be one to watch. #AutonomousVehicles #Robotaxi #MobilityFuture
