Higher Education
The CSC provides the main UK government scholarship scheme led by international development objectives.
About us
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC) provides the UK government’s scholarship scheme led by international development objectives. It supports the co-creation of research, innovation, and solutions to enact sustainable development priorities across the Commonwealth and beyond. The CSC is an executive non-departmental public body and operates within the framework of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP). Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Department for Education and UK University partners, the CSC offers a range of study, research, and professional development options for people throughout the Commonwealth. Since 1960, the CSC has funded over 31,000 individuals to study in the UK and gain skills, acquire knowledge, and build networks to tackle global development challenges. Our objectives: 1. To provide a world-class scholarship scheme that contributes to sustainable development across the Commonwealth. 2. To ensure that our programmes promote equity and inclusion, reward merit, and deliver widespread access, especially to those from disadvantaged backgrounds. 3. To support and encourage cutting-edge research, innovation, and knowledge exchange throughout the Commonwealth. The CSC is driven forward by international development objectives. As part of their application, Commonwealth Scholars select at least 3 UN Sustainable Development Goals that they aim to impact post-award and scholarships are offered across six key development themes: • Science and technology for development • Promoting innovation and entrepreneurship • Strengthening resilience and response to crises • Strengthening health systems and capacity • Strengthening global peace, security and governance

We were delighted to receive over 3,000 responses from alumni in 58 different Commonwealth countries and territories spanning every decade of the CSC's existence since 1960. From the data, we learnt that an incredible 62% of alumni are involved in charitable or community outreach activities and 508 alumni have received an award or honour for their work since 2019. Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK reposted this
What a fantastic day at the University of Birmingham yesterday! With the incredible support of our contacts Michael and Jas, we hosted a special reception to celebrate our Commonwealth Scholars and their amazing work. The event brought together scholars, advisors, supervisors and international representatives visiting campus this week—showcasing the global impact of the Commonwealth Scholarship community. A true highlight was welcoming Dr. Pradeep Kumar Dammala, a Commonwealth Scholarship alumnus and 2023 CSC Impact Award winner. His reflections on the scholarship’s transformative power, along with his collaborations with Birmingham and IIT Jodhpur, demonstrated the meaningful global connections these scholarships foster. It was also wonderful to finally meet so many of my scholars in person—putting faces to names! A big thank you to Ajay and Dalitso who gave us a fantastic campus tour, sharing their favourite spots and the beauty of Birmingham’s campus. Special thanks as well to our CSC Advisors, including John Bryson and Shioba rosewilliam, for joining us and whose ongoing dedication ensures the success of this program. Grateful to my colleagues Maggie and Kirsty for joining me, and to Michael for making this event possible during such a busy week. Days like this truly highlight the importance of our collaboration 🌏 #CommonwealthScholarships

Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK reposted this
🎉 Last week, I accepted His Majesty’s invitation to attend the 65th Anniversary Impact Showcase Reception of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC) at #LancasterHouse, St. James, London. I had the incredible opportunity to join impact makers from across the globe to celebrate 65 years of transforming lives and addressing global challenges through the #Commonwealth R&D programmes provided by the UK government through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). It was a privilege to meet the esteemed Rt. Hon. Anneliese Dodds MP and Minister for Development, FCDO; Professor Robin Mason ORB, Chair of the CSC, Terri-Ann Gilbert-Roberts, Dr. @Alastair Niven LVO OBE, Chair of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) Support Group; Dr. Liz Peri, Policy and Engagement Adviser at the FCDO, and many others who are dedicated to fostering sustainable global development. Following the competitive nature of the award, it wasn't surprising to see myself representing the entire #AkwaIbomState & was super happy to showcase the Ibibio culture through my dressing. 🌍 The CSC programmes are pivotal in advancing the #UN Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs), with an impact that extends far beyond the UK, into Commonwealth countries, and the Global South. The CSC Impact Report, recently launched, highlights the profound influence of Commonwealth alumni in their home countries, where they address local and national sustainable development priorities. 💡 Through the CSC, talented individuals who might not otherwise have access to advanced education are empowered to study and train in the UK. The knowledge, skills, and networks they gain continue to shape communities and countries long after their studies, creating lasting global change. 📈 With over 31,000 alumni, the CSC's impact is undeniable. Its graduates include Nobel Prize winners, Prime Ministers, Presidents, Ambassadors, CEOs, university leaders, judges, and innovators, all working to improve lives and tackle pressing global issues. As a proud Commonwealth Scholar, I celebrate this legacy of excellence and commitment to sustainable development. I, therefore, invite you to explore the wider impact of Commonwealth Scholars through this documented report: https://lnkd.in/d7zF2FEX 📸 To view more photos from the event, please visit the event image gallery via https://lnkd.in/ddyaxZg4 Are you that one person who is very enthusiastic about making change happen in the society? We recently held our 65th Anniversary Impact Showcase Reception at Lancaster House in London to celebrate six and a half decades of supporting students from across the Commonwealth. We were honoured to welcome more than 200 distinguished guests to the reception including UK parliamentarians, Commonwealth High Commissioners, and vice-chancellors and senior university leaders from institutions across the UK. The event provided an opportunity to celebrate some of the inspirational stories from the Commonwealth Scholar network as well as providing a snapshot of the vast impact that Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni make throughout their careers as researchers, leaders and practitioners in a range of fields.
