Developing novel technology for CO2 sequestration into concrete, to make it cheaper, greener and stronger.
About us
Concrete4Change (C4C) is a R&D company that is developing ground-breaking technology to utilise and permanently mineralise CO2 in concrete. Concrete4Change technology won a wide range of awards including the United Nations (UN) Most Innovative Net-Zero technology - The Climate Challenge Cup at COP26 in Glasgow and Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Award. Concrete4Change is on a mission to remove 2 billion tonnes of CO2 emission in the concrete industry by 2040 - utilising concrete as the safest form of CO2 sink in the world, and turning one of the world's biggest emission problems into an emission solution Let's make a Concrete Change, together.

A place close to Concrete4Change's home in Nottingham. The UK's last coal power station, the Ratcliffe Power Station, is closing at the end of the next month, after 142 years of operation, showcasing the UK's accelerated move to sustainable energy sources. More pertinently, this reduces the amount of fresh pulverised fly-ash (PFA) that is produced in the UK to nil. PFA is a long used supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in concrete. However, alongside GGBS, such SCMs are running out of supply as predicted nearly 7 years ago by the UK government. This problem extends to the majority of western Europe. As a result, we need long-term scalable solutions that can reduce emissions and utilise the CO2 produced in the concrete industry in a cost effective, practical manner. Concrete4Change is at the forefront of this challenge. Working with the key partners around the world to put the industry on an accelerated path to a lower emission and more sustainable future.

SustainabilityWorks Ireland has just released our second Climate Tech in Ireland 2024 report, created in partnership with PwC Ireland. The spotlight is rightly on net-zero targets, SBTi, and net-zero transition plans. Still, I firmly believe that climate technology is one of the missing pieces of the decarbonisation jigsaw. Approximately 88% of global emissions are now covered by a net-zero carbon target. The deadline to reach many of these carbon targets—whether in 2030 or 2050—is fast approaching. As Ireland approaches the five-year mark of halving global climate emissions, the urgency of the situation cannot be overstated. Decarbonisation is a problem that can be solved, and it is, in fact, a business opportunity. It can lead to cost savings, new revenue streams, and even market leadership. And let's not forget the bonus of attracting top talent and winning over eco-conscious consumers. And for those pioneering Climate Tech solutions, the horizon is bright with opportunities. Our report highlights 22 remarkable companies from across the island of Ireland, and our research has identified over 300 pure-play Climate Tech companies. The energy sector continues to dominate, but we're seeing a growing number of Climate Tech companies addressing decarbonisation in the Mobility & Transport and Industry, Manufacturing and Resource Management (IMRM) sectors. We believe that Ireland has a strong ‘right to win’ in Climate Tech, and there are a number of immediate opportunities we could focus on: • Decarbonisation in commercial buildings • Smart farming, nature restoration and food system innovation - Ireland’s largest domestic sector has an opportunity to lead the way globally • Ireland can play a leading role in EV battery technology and the advancement of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) • Empowering women-led businesses and ensuring equitable access to finance • Grid technologies and energy management services • Innovation in climate adaptation technologies. Our report calls for three specific actions: • Creating a Climate Tech Roadmap for Ireland to align decarbonisation targets with emerging Climate Tech solutions • Focusing funding and support on developing climate technologies in sectors where Ireland has a competitive advantage • Officially recognising Climate Tech as a unique and vital sector in its own right A huge thank you to David McGee and the Dublin team, Orlaith McGoldrick, Trish Dineen, Katie Cotter and their colleagues in Northern Ireland, Caitroina McCusker, and Majella Mason. And from the SustainabilityWorks Ireland team, Laura Heuston, Paddy Molony, and Conor Morrow, formerly of this parish. https://lnkd.in/eyENfgnj
We are delighted to launch our second Irish Climate Tech Opportunity report with PwC Ireland which highlights the opportunities that we have to unlock economic growth and address climate change through the many climate tech companies we have across the island of Ireland. 💡 🌍 A huge thank you to all who contributed to the report including Temporis Capital, Systemiq Capital, WakeUp Capital, SOSV and Just Climate! 📑 Over the coming weeks we will be posting some key insights that the report highlights across the following sectors: - Energy - Built Environment - Food - Agriculture and Land Use - Mobility and Transport - Industry Manufacturing and Resource Management Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/ewDprZZD
