This week, our Head of Community Engagement, Luke Freer, attended the Youth Sport Trust Conference along with the team at kitround. Together we presented Youth Sport Trust with a cheque for £8,000, which was the total money we raised for the charity following last year’s kitround campaign. The campaign saw team & members donating pre-loved sports kit to enable more young people to play sport in local communities across the UK. We're incredibly proud to support such an important cause and look forward to continuing our efforts to make sports more accessible for all.

This means offering a variety of experiences tailored to the unique preferences of each country we operate in. For instance, in Germany, we provide experiential sauna sessions led by Sauna Meisters. These sessions blend fragrance, music, and movement, transforming a traditional sauna visit into a sensory journey that helps members unwind in a whole new way. Meanwhile, padel is booming in Spain, with an estimated 5.5 million players as of 2024 and it is rapidly expanding across UK and Europe. In response, we’ve introduced 130 padel courts across our estate and to meet the growing demand, we plan to add padel courts to 27 more Clubs this year. With the rise of pickleball, we’re also ensuring our members can enjoy both sports. In Germany and the UK, we’ve embraced Niksen - the Dutch art of doing nothing - which promotes mindfulness and relaxation. This practice provides members with space to disconnect, recharge, and focus on their mental well-being. And for our members in France and Switzerland, we’ve developed specialised fitness programmes designed to prepare them for skiing, alongside signature classes such as BLAZE, Ign1te, SPIRIT, and Cyclone to enhance overall fitness. With each step forward, we’re proud to lead the way in wellness, building healthier, happier communities across the UK and Europe. On Global Recycling Day we’d like to share how, in partnership with kitround we helped to extend the lifecycle of valuable materials, diverted waste from landfill and reduced CO2e embodied carbon. Last year we partnered with kitround - a pioneering marketplace platform dedicated to the reselling and redistribution of sports kit. With the combined support from our team members and members we helped to donate nearly 7 thousand preloved items, which went on to raise £40,000 for 3 charities. £8000 of this went towards supporting the great work of the Youth Sport Trust. As a result of the campaign, over 1,652kg of sportswear and equipment has been diverted from landfill. By keeping these items in use, we prevented over 27,890kg CO2e worth of embodied carbon from being lost to waste. During the month of April, David Lloyd Clubs is delighted to be supporting kitround for a second year in our UK Clubs and we’re hoping to collect over 12,000 items of preloved sports kit and equipment. Wendy Carter, one of the founders of kitround, shares this quote below. "We are delighted to partner with David Lloyd Clubs again! Last year team members and members generously dropped 1,000's of items of great sports kit and equipment into the kitbins at their local Club. The sale of those items enabled us to donate £40,000 to support 3 great charities. As we look back on last week’s International Women’s Day campaign and the inspiring stories from our team members, we’d like to conclude this special day with an inspiring podcast from our Group People Director – @Juliett Cattermole.

We are proud to end our International Women's Day series with the story of Lauren Ambrozewska, Member Administration Manager. “I am fortunate to have commenced my career as a Membership Services Consultant at the age of 19. Over the past seven years, I have received two promotions, now holding the position of Member Administration Manager. I was very lucky to be supported through a successor plan from my line managers on both occasions. My involvement with the Women@DL IRG (Inclusion Resource Group) has been particularly rewarding, and I am honoured to have recently been appointed as Vice Chair. I am dedicated to contributing to the IRG's success by sharing my experiences, insights, best practices, and celebrating the achievements of women with enthusiasm and passion.” We’re proud of the environment we’ve built here, one that allows team members to flourish, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals. Today, we are sharing the story of Chloe Pitt, Duty Manager, Dudley. “Working at David Lloyd Clubs has opened lots of opportunities for me. I started working at David Lloyd Clubs as a lifeguard, after a few months I was eager to take on more responsibility. Throughout my career at David Lloyd Clubs, I have gained qualifications such as a Level 2 Swim Teaching and I decided to challenge myself further and enrolled onto a Level 3 Duty Management apprenticeship as I was interested in the role of a Duty Manager. Since completing the apprenticeship, I have been confidently working as a Duty Manager, continuously developing my skills and growing within the role.” #Internationalwomensday

Next up in our International Women’s Day series is, Bibiana Taron, General Manager, Eppendorf. “I joined the company as a Membership Advisor and have progressed my career to General Manager. No day is ever the same at David Lloyd Clubs – whether that’s helping our team members or members. For me, I enjoy the variety of the role, and the opportunities open to me. I have had the opportunity to lead different clubs and more recently become the Chair of our Culture Club network group enabling us to work better across all our international countries.” #Internationalwomensday

Continuing our International Women's Day series, we have Franzisca "Sissy" Hauke, Social Media and PR Manager, Germany. “Transitioning from professional sports to the business world wasn’t easy, but David Lloyd Clubs gave me the platform to bring my passion for movement, wellness, and empowerment into a new role. As Social Media & PR Manager at David Lloyd Clubs in Germany, I now use my expertise to inspire, educate, and connect women through storytelling. Beyond the work itself, David Lloyd Clubs has provided an environment that values personal and professional growth. Here, I have found a team that supports innovation, creativity, and the power of storytelling—the same elements that made me a successful athlete.”
