Congratulations to our MD James Dawes. CMILT who has formerly accepted a specialist advisor role for the British Concrete Transport Association. 👏 👏 👏
The British Concrete Transport Association is delighted to welcome James Dawes. CMILT, a seasoned professional in #fleet and #transport Corporate Social Responsibility, to its team. James, a former Metropolitan Police Sergeant, is a highly respected industry figure and a passionate #roadsafety campaigner. He is also the MD of Dawes Highway Safety. On his decision to become an integral part of the BCTA, James told us, "When safety is taken for granted, luck eventually runs out. Reputations are ruined, lives are lost, and loved ones don't go home at the end of the day. The concrete industry demands a fresh wave of culture change to achieve continuing excellence. I'm proud to support the British Concrete Transport Association who are spearheading the drive towards reducing Work Related Road Risk and saving lives." Dawes Highway Safety have been honoured to be able to directly support Road Safe NI recently. Thanks to an introduction by Kris Boyd, and the power of #LinkedIn, we've been able to provide these incredible volunteers over at the charity with a set of 5 banners to really drum the 'Fatal 5' message home in addition to other school safety banners and training mats. To support the charity and their incredible work visit https://lnkd.in/egghgx_P or contact David Jackson directly. He and his team really are doing wonderful work. Road Safe NI Charity release 5 new banners emphasising the message “Get to know the fatal 5” Thanks to the support of 5 fantastic companies the charity was able to produce five new banners which warn people of the Fatal 5. The banners will be displayed at all future events. The Fatal 5 refers to the five most significant factors which lead to death and serious injury in road traffic collisions in Northern Ireland. Get to know the Fatal 5 1. Don’t Drink/Drug Drive – Don’t risk being one of the many thousands of drink or drug drivers caught each year. You could face a minimum 12 month ban, a large fine, a criminal record or even imprisonment. 2. Kill Your Speed – You are twice as likely to kill someone you hit at 35mph than you are at 30mph. Just a 1mph cut in average speed can result in a 5% reduction in the collision rate. 3. Don’t Get Careless – A vehicle can become a lethal weapon when driven carelessly. Getting a fixed penalty will result in a £100 fine and three points on your licence. Serious cases will go to court where penalties can be greater. Causing death by dangerous driving can mean a prison sentence of up to 14 years. 4. Belt Up – You are twice as likely to die if you don’t belt up. Not wearing a seatbelt can be a fatal decision, even on short, familiar journeys and at low speed. As a driver you are responsible for ensuring that passengers under the age of 14 are wearing a seatbelt (or using the correct child restraint for their height and age.) The penalty for failing to wear a seat belt may be up to £500 fine and 3 points on your licence. 5. Switch It Off – You are four times more likely to crash if you use a mobile phone whilst driving, whatever you’re doing with it. The consequences for using your phone behind the wheel are a £200 fine and 6 points on your licence. And if you cause a death, you could face up to 14 years imprisonment. Thank you to our sponsors Browne & Day motors Claudy, Dickson Group Insurance, CRASH Services McKinstry Skip Hire Ltd and Bunzl Armagh. Thanks to James Dawes. CMILT for producing the banners for us

It was great to be invited to Greggs (Amesbury) alongside the Metropolitan Police Commercial Vehicle Unit for their driver engagement day yesterday with Richard Wenham and Alex Burlison CMILT. It’s so good to see the level of proactive #riskreduction from this famous brand and I found it really interesting to learn more from Dean Thomas et al about the in-depth daily #fleet checks their drivers carry out on their vehicles before they go out to deliver delicious snacks all over the country. 😋 Dawes Highway Safety #riskreduction #fleet #culturechange Steve Hale Rob Beckers CMILT Jack Stabler Richard Penna Lynne Beale Phil Andrews Laura Hadzik Simon Cashin - MARRM, CMILT, MInstTA Alison Moriarty FCILT MAFP MARRM (she/her) Tara Shwani Alex Hewitt James Fisher Holly Brabin Allan Somers Annie Graham Hayley Buckles
