We've talked to multiple organisations over the years (especially those who have acquired or merged with other companies), where their copious amounts of data sit in different unconnected software systems or databases, and they need it amalgamating.   The additional complexity often comes from categorisation and classification of data - when merged companies and departments within those companies use different words or phrases that effectively have the same meaning.   Sometimes it's even down to the location of the individual inputting the data and their local terminology - we've all seen the cob, bap, barm, roll debate!   All those elements make cohesive data and analysis of that data, difficult.   Companies are increasingly developing new terms to categorise what they do, what they sell - and even generating some interesting job titles - to differentiate themselves from others.
