The UK’s largest decarbonisation opportunity: the Humber. 🌎 The region generates 20% of the UK’s electricity, while supporting over 360,000 jobs and contributing £18bn of economic activity each year. But as the UK’s largest emitting industrial cluster, decarbonising the Humber is key to reaching #NetZero. 👥 The Humber Energy Board, which represents over 20 organisations in the region, recently launched its new plan, including policy recommendations to unlock £15bn of private investment, create over 20,000 jobs and ensure it continues to play a critical role in UK energy security. 🗞️ This plan includes the use of technologies like bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (#BECCS), which removes carbon from the atmosphere while generating renewable power. 💡 With the right support, the Humber stands ready to help the UK Government fulfil its growth and clean power missions. 🤝 ➡️ Read more from Richard Gwilliam, our UK BECCS Programme Director and Chair of the Humber Energy Board, in this Yorkshire Post article: https://lnkd.in/exCeg86c #ad

We’re offering a brand-new coding club for girls at Selby Community Primary School to encourage the next generation of women in #STEM. 💻 👥 In the club, students will learn coding by creating and programming interactive projects. One project involves building a Lego robot, which they must then code to carry out different actions. 🤖 We’re proud to promote STEM education among young girls – a key part of our long-term community engagement strategy. 🤝 #GreenCareersWeek Link in comments to read our press release. ⬇️

Our virtual work experience module, created with Springpod, is an excellent opportunity for students to get a taste of working at Drax and to learn more about the important role #carbonremovals play in tackling the climate crisis. 💻 🌍 We’re proud to be nurturing the next generation of talent that will power the future. 💡 #GreenCareersWeek Learn more. 👇
It's #GreenCareersWeek and what better way to celebrate than spotlighting our partnership with Drax Group 💡 Together we've created a work-based learning programme about #CarbonCapture that enables students to develop the hard skills they need to begin building a career in this industry. Carbon capture is a topic that often appears in the news as a potential solution to helping reach climate targets. But the technologies involved and skills needed to turn it into a career are often less well known... 👀 In this shorter experience programme students will be briefed by a Process Engineer at Drax on their task and then receive feedback on their submissions. This project structure enables students to put their knowledge to the test and come away with actionable insight about how to develop professionally 📈 Learn more about the experience below ⬇️ 🔗 https://hubs.la/Q02WY8Lm0 #GreenCareers #GCW2024 #Careers

👻 Over the Halloween period, we were thrilled to welcome families to Drax Power Station’s Skylark Centre to enjoy a series of Halloween-themed activities. 🎃 Visitors participated in hands-on #STEM activities, such as a chemical reaction experiment, where children were challenged with inflating a pumpkin themed balloon using household ingredients. Plus, there was a woodland trail quiz, which tested Halloween knowledge! 🧑🔬 Jane Breach, our UK Community & Education Manager said: "These Halloween events highlight Drax Power Station’s commitment to engaging the community and promoting STEM education for families in the areas in which we operate. Children left the Skylark Centre with lasting memories and newfound knowledge, all whilst celebrating the spirit of Halloween in a safe and festive environment." 💬 🔗 Link in comments to read our press release.

National Energy System Operator's (#NESO) latest report highlights the critical role Drax will play in helping the UK Government meet its binding climate targets. 🌍 Biomass, BECCS and pumped storage hydro are all mentioned as important projects. 👇
🌍 National Energy System Operator's (NESO) 'Clean Power 2030' report couldn’t be any clearer - our power stations and plans to invest billions in renewable flexible electricity and #carbonremovals have a critical role to play in delivering the UK Government’s clean power target and wider climate goals. 💡 Drax Power Station’s secure #biomass generation, and our intention to double the capacity of our pumped #hydro site, Cruachan Power Station, are essential components of the pathways that NESO have set out. 🌿 Plus, NESO highlights that the deployment of #BECCS is required to meet the Government’s carbon removal targets. At Drax, we aim to install at least two units of BECCS at Drax Power Station, with the first operational in 2030 removing 4 million tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere per year. 🔎 Find out more via the link in comments.

We’ve appointed globally renowned hydro engineering consultants, COWI and PINI, to optimise our plans to build the UK’s first new pumped storage hydro plant in almost 40 years. 🤝 We have plans to expand our existing Cruachan pumped storage facility in Scotland through the construction of a new 600 MW power station. The new plant would effectively more than double the site’s total generation capacity to more than 1 GW, strengthening the UK’s energy security. 💡 COWI and PINI will provide support through the project’s Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) phase, with their expertise being used in areas such as civil and marine engineering and geotechnics. 🛠️ ➡️ Read more in our press release: https://lnkd.in/eNUuurEy
