Protecting habitat for wildlife throughout Durham, Darlington, Gateshead, Sunderland and South Tyneside. Durham Wildlife Trust protects habitat for wildlife and promotes nature conservation throughout its geographical area. In addition to the management of 36 nature reserves covering an area of approximately 800 hectares (2000 acres), the Trust delivers projects which work to give communities and individuals the means to get involved in nature conservation and provides education and volunteering opportunities for thousands of children and adults each year. All of our work is made possible through the support of our members and volunteers.

Connecting with nature is a great way to take care of our mental health 🌿 Research has shown that a sense of connectedness to nature is linked to higher levels of mental wellbeing and that spending time in nature can provide those who are socially isolated with another way to feel connected to the wider world. This World Mental Health Day, why not take a moment to reflect on a few ways to connect with nature? Read more in our blog below 💚 https://lnkd.in/eDPKyzWB
Thank you to everyone at CPI who recently volunteered at Low Barns Nature Reserve, performing essential meadow maintenance through the traditional method of using scythes 🌿 Meadows and species-rich grasslands are important habitats for a range of wildlife including birds, mammals (including bats) and invertebrates such as bees and butterflies. Unfortunately, 97% of meadows in the UK have been lost since 1935. Durham Wildlife Trust helps to conserve these vital habitats with the help of volunteers and support from our members 💚 To find out more about Wild Work days, please visit https://lnkd.in/e_4HAdj3
