Our Muslim colleagues have been observing fasting in the ‘Blessed month of Ramadan’ , this has given them the opportunity to not only refrain from eating and drinking between sunrise and sunset but to self-reflect, increase spirituality, make positive changes and give charity, We have been able to offer flexibility, support and understand the importance of inclusivity in the work place. One of our colleagues told us that "I have felt very comfortable, supported by my manager with frequent breaks, adjusted work times so I am rested and also be able to work effectively". At the end of the month of Ramadan we would like to wish our colleagues and communities ‘ Eid Mubarak’, ( Happy Eid).

On behalf of our member authorities, we are calling on Government to give the resources, clarity, and support they need to see them through Local Government Reorganisation and Devolution. Following on from the Ministerial Statement made on 24 March, we have written to ask the Secretary of State for Devolution, Jim McMahon, making the case for local authorities in the East of England. Key requests we have made include adequate resource to reduce the impact on day-to-day services; timely feedback on interim plans; dedicated civil service support and up to date guidance around the TUPE process. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/enf7ZWBr Cllr Graham Butland, EELGA Chair said “The current wave of reform in local government is the largest for 50 years. We want to ensure the best outcomes for residents in the East of England and to do that our councils need urgent support”.

Today the Chancellor presented the Spring Statement to the nation, outlining the projected direction of the UK economy while also taking the chance to announce some policy changes. In light of the Statement, we urge the government to go on to adequately fund local government and key infrastructure projects in the East of England in the spending review due to take place later this year. So much of the Government’s proposed agenda will be delivered through local government, from building more homes, to driving growth. With adequate funding and support, local authorities can act as a positive force for change, and the East of England is ideally placed to help the government to deliver its ambitious industrial strategy. We feed, fuel and supply the nation – infrastructure investment here benefits and drives economic growth and prosperity across the whole country.

These boots are made for walking. One of the key roles we undertake for our member authorities is facilitating Chief Executive appraisals. Head of Employer Services, Alison Thompson put her best foot forward today to do just that. One pair of Doc Martins are hers, now who are the others? Do message Alison or email alison.thompson@eelga.gov.uk if we can support your authority.
