I was pleased to attend Derbyshire Partnership Against Rural Crime, hosted by the Police and Crime Commissioner of Derbyshire Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts today at Chatsworth House. Partnership working is one of my key objectives in making this region the best place to live, to work, and to learn - something that can only happen when people feel safe. Our rural communities face specific issues when it comes to crime and safety, and I was keen to hear from the local police, the tourism industry, farming representatives and the Police and Crime Commissioner about the work being done to ensure residents and visitors feel safe and secure.

I am at Downing Street today to join the Prime Minister and some of the UK’s top technology leaders to celebrate the UK’s AI ecosystem. AI will be part of enabling growth across the economy – unlocking increased productivity across sectors and solving the everyday challenges of local people. As Mayor, I am here because the East Midlands is ideally placed to support that growth and it is my job to make the case so that our region can benefit from the investment, jobs, and opportunities that this will create.

We’re thrilled to welcome Amy Harhoff as the first permanent Chief Executive of the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA). As Chief Executive, Amy will support the Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward to improve regional transport, housing, skills and job opportunities, inclusive growth, and climate resilience. These are key priorities for making a real difference in our region. Her leadership will help us build on our progress and move towards our shared vision for a stronger East Midlands.
