Beast Philanthropy, the charity founded by the world’s most popular YouTuber MrBeast, gave $200,000 to Ugandans living in extreme poverty through GiveDirectly and posted a video about the process. Watch below and read about how the collaboration came together at https://lnkd.in/ehr-WM_3 We partnered on this video to reach more families in need:   👀 Large, new audiences will learn about GiveDirectly: Beast Philanthropy videos are seen by 20M-40M people, and dubbed into 12+ languages. This will reach people that have never heard of direct cash, and some of them will start giving directly: GiveDirectly.org/beast 💸 It helps dispel common myths about direct cash aid: Many people still think that giving cash to people in poverty is a bad idea: they may waste the money, need training instead, or won’t be able to make lasting changes to their lives. This video excels at tackling these common concerns for a broad audience. We're asking featured recipients for feedback on the process:   👥 After filming, our safeguarding team interviewed 9 of the filmed recipients. Some examples: - “The way they came and interacted with me and my family, that's what I liked most. I was delighted to have been invited to speak at Effective Altruism Global in London last weekend. Thank you for hosting our fireside chat Sophika Kostyniuk, it was a great opportunity to reflect on the cumulative impact of advocacy work for #decapodwelfare, and the exciting policy and industry progress that continues to be made. Less than a decade ago the welfare of animals like crabs, lobsters and shrimp was almost entirely neglected, with their very ability to suffer still debated. Whilst there is still a long way to go to see widespread improvements in the welfare outcomes for these animals, it’s great to see what has already been achieved and the continued momentum to do more. I feel fortunate to now support organisations in integrating decapod welfare and aquatic animal welfare within their existing asks and streams of work. The mainstreaming of this issue in larger organisations, together with the great ongoing work of groups like Crustacean Compassion and Shrimp Welfare Project, have established this as an issue that is here to stay. #EAGlobal is always an interesting and intensive few days, with a real (and in my experience unusual) focus on having one to one conversations.  As always with EA events, I came away with a brain buzzing with ideas and having met some great new connections. If we didn't get a chance to chat as my schedule was very full at the event, please do get in touch. The combination of reflecting on past impact and planning for the future made for an inspiring weekend.

This morning at Effective Altruism Global in London, Managing Director Sophika Kostyniuk moderated a session with Claire Howard titled "Turning the Tide for Decapod Crustacean Welfare." The discussion explored how awareness of decapod #crustacean sentience has risen from obscurity to global recognition, highlighted the progress within the #seafood industry, and examined the impact on these animals in the UK, EU, and beyond.

A few fast facts on the state of immunizations in our world: ➡ Vaccinations have helped eradicate two diseases in human history, smallpox and rinderpest. ➡ Even with the progress the world has made through vaccinations, today one child dies every 20 seconds from a disease that a vaccine could have prevented. ➡ 1 in 5 children globally still don't have access to essential immunizations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
