Good morning 🌅 We know how expensive it is keeping our homes warm and energy efficient! Often we question, should I get solar panels? is my smart meter helping me to keep the heating costs down? If you are a home owner, renting as a tenant or residential developer there’s an willingness to know more and bring your bills or overheads down. This week in my capacity of a National Board Member for Green Skills Advisory Panel (GSAP), I had two very insightful discussions. As part of the YorEnergy project, Built Environment - Smarter Transformation (BE-ST) is developing four modules to upskill retrofit professionals and community champions.   An in-person session offers the opportunity to participate in the first two of these modules, focusing on the people aspect of retrofit: - Customer Care - Decarbonisation for vulnerable households   Both modules will be taught in one day (9:15am - 3pm) at York College, York UK, with the choice to attend on either the 8th or 9th of April.    Spaces are limited so will be offered on a first come, first served basis. We’re delighted to see another fantastic new affordable housing scheme underway for one of our longstanding members.  50 new homes will be built in Wakefield city centre on the site of the former Chantry House on Kirkgate by Caddick Construction Limited, who were appointed through our New Build Framework.   We’re proud to be working with WDH, one of the founding members of Efficiency North, who have a strong and impressive record of providing high quality, affordable housing. We welcome the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s announcement of £1.8bn funding for projects to improve the energy efficiency of 170,000 homes through Wave 3 of the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund (WH:SHF) and Warm Homes Local Grant Funding. We’re delighted that £47m+ has been allocated to our member social housing providers in Northern England through the WH:SHF Challenge Fund and £61m+ through WH:SHF Strategic Partnerships. As always, we’re here to help and support them with their decarbonisation projects with EN:Procure’s procurement services for decarbonisation and renewables. Their frameworks and DPSs have already helped improve energy performance and delivered tangible benefits for tenants now living in warmer, more comfortable and more affordable homes. In 1988, less than 7% of the full time construction industry workforce in Britain were women. Nowadays about 15% of the UK construction workforce is female, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). So, although numbers have doubled, there’s still lots of work to do in schools and early education to make sure girls as well as boys are fully aware of all the fulfilling career opportunities in the industry. We’re proud that c50% of our workforce is female. To mark Women in Construction Week and International Women’s Day we asked Marina Inkles, EN:Procure Principal Framework Manager, about how she went from hairdressing when she left school in the late 80s to pivot into a successful construction career.
