    Nursing colleagues from across Elysium have gathered today for our latest Nursing Conference and an opportunity to share knowledge and best practice.   Over the next two days, ‘Nurses Make the Difference’ will explore a range of topics including the perspective of the service user shared by Group Service User Expert by Experience Sue Denison, psychological safety, observations and nursing across the generations.   Keynote Speaker Professor Rozanne Nwaobi-Crosby, Lead Nurse for Research NIHR ICA Clinical Lecturer Moorfields Eye Hospital will present on both Leadership and Research and Eye Health and colleagues from Elysium services will also share examples of best practice.

    Earlier this month services across Elysium marked World Mental Health Day in different ways. At Bere Clinic School there was a focus on mindfulness activities and fun, with games, reading and time spent with Nectar the dog. There were also crochet lessons organised by students. Meanwhile. at Arbury Court, Elysium CEO Joy Chamberlain joined colleagues in officially opening the newly refurbished staff welfare areas which offer a relaxing and welcoming space to spend breaks.

    The positive and therapeutic effect animals can have for people supported in services is well known. One of Elysium’s latest ‘recruits’ to this role is 13-week-old puppy Madam who has been visiting the people supported on Bevan Ward at Aberdeeg Hospital, and colleagues who work at the service. It is fair to say she has firmly established herself as a favourite visitor, warming laps wherever she goes!

    A cup of tea and a slice of cake can make all the difference in the fight against cancer. Colleagues and service users were treated to an array of delicious sweet treats and hot beverages to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support across several Elysium sites including beautifully decorated cookies, traybakes profiteroles and a special ‘pizza’ made entirely out of cake!     On the 11th November, Elysium Healthcare will be joined by Matt Milarski, Head of Quality Improvement, and Sal Smith, Head of Lived Experience at the National Collaborating Centre, Royal College of Psychiatrists, for a QI Conversations live webinar. The event will offer an opportunity for internal staff and service users to hear from leaders in the field of improvement discuss the Culture of Care Programme, the importance of lived experience, and how Elysium staff can be involved in creating meaningful change using QI methods and tools on their wards.
