Students from the Yarmouth and Lowestoft Campuses of the East Coast College and University Of The Third Age had the opportunity to visit a historic engineering project, gaining valuable insights into local history and modern engineering practices. The visit was organised by Steve Fox and hosted by Erith Contractors in collaboration with National Grid. John Wickes, the placement officer for the engineering department at East Coast College, shared his thoughts on the visit: "I think the students really got a brilliant insight into local history and, more importantly, an engineering project which was started in the Victorian times. They can compare that with the high-tech engineering that they're dealing with at college."   The students were enthusiastic about the experience. Finlay, a T level engineering student from Lowestoft, said, "What I've enjoyed today is just seeing the shape planning that needs to go into a project like this. It's really inspired me as an engineer and what I want to go into in the future."   Xanthe, another T level engineering student from Lowestoft, expressed her appreciation for the visit: "I really enjoyed seeing how such a huge building built in 1884 is still standing and the measures that are taken to preserve it for future generations."   The visit provided the students with a unique opportunity to see first hand the challenges and intricacies involved in preserving historic structures while integrating modern engineering techniques. The students were able to witness the dedication and expertise required to maintain and restore such significant landmarks.   Xanthe also extended her gratitude to National Grid, Erith Contractors, and the team involved: “I'd really like to thank National Grid, Erith, and the team here for giving the students a fantastic opportunity for an insight into a local history project linked to engineering.” Overall, the visits were a resounding success, leaving the students inspired and motivated to pursue their careers in engineering. The collaboration between East Coast College, University Of The Third AgeNational Grid, and Erith Contractors showcased the importance of preserving historical engineering achievements while embracing modern advancements.

Taking a bird’s eye view of the site at 54 The Bishops Avenue, we’re excited to share this drone shot taken last week. The sunny conditions provided the perfect opportunity to showcase the excellent progress made The Erith Group as the development reaches Level 2 of its structure. This landmark project consists of four buildings designed by Pilbrow & Partners, including the historic Oak Lodge. The development will blend seamlessly with the neighboring trees but will also feature extensive landscape architecture by PAD landscapes, including a woodland walk around the perimeter and an outdoor kitchen and dining area. We look forward to sharing further updates as this exciting development continues to progress.
