🚧 Industry Projects: Model Bridge Designs at UTC South Durham 🌉 Over the past few weeks, the Year 10 students have been working with Tracy Cuthbertson and myself to design and develop their own model bridges. We’re excited to see their hard work as they prepare to present their creations in the coming weeks! 🌟 They kicked off the project with a trip to Newcastle Quayside 2 weeks ago, where the students had the opportunity to explore iconic bridges and gain insights from industry experts Craig Higgins at JC Consulting and Safa Abu Alhija at Fairhurst. This experience provided them with a real-world perspective on engineering, inspiring and informing their own bridge designs. 🌉✨ Back at UTC South Durham today, the students are now working in groups to further develop their ideas and prepare for the upcoming presentations in the next few weeks. A huge thank you to the professionals who supported them and to our students for their dedication, creativity, and innovation. 🙌Meldrum Group #TLevel #Engineering #Innovation #FutureEngineers #UTC #ModelBridges #StudentProjects #IndustryCollaboration

It's always a pleasure to be able to answer the call when Network Rail and QTS Group need us. When Storm Bert caused a significant failure on the CBC1 line in Cumbria in November, Glasgow's Geo team mobilised to assist. However, rather than "just" (!) having to remediate the slope, it was necessary to entirely restore it, complete with watercourse along the crest. The watercourse required to be diverted during the works and the Water Services team, also in Glasgow, were on hand to provide advice and details. Take a look at the article below from Ground Engineering Magazine. A great example of teamwork from all sides!
A positive way to end 2024 - a great piece from Ground Engineering Magazine on our work at Ulverston following Storm Bert. An incredible effort between our team, Network Rail and Fairhurst. https://lnkd.in/e9GEn997
