Foster + Partners completes Alibaba’s new Shanghai offices. Earlier this week, a ceremony marked the official opening of Alibaba’s new state-of-the-art offices in Shanghai’s Xuhui Riverside district. Foster + Partners’ design embodies Alibaba’s working ethos and completely reimagines the traditional model of the office, by prioritising public space and transparency, enhancing connections with nature, and creating a wide variety of highly collaborative workspaces that respond to the company’s dynamic team structure. “We are delighted to attend the opening of Alibaba’s new offices. Making full use of this incredible location, our design creates a highly collaborative workplace with a climatically responsive public space at its heart, encouraging people to observe life within the building. Developing this sense of transparency between outside and inside – public and private – has underlined our approach from the very beginning.” Luke Fox, Head of Studio at Foster + Partners. Health and wellbeing are cornerstones of the project, with vast green outdoor terraces – where employees can take in spectacular views of the Huangpu River and Pudong CBD – and the central public space encouraging connections with the outside world. All workspaces have operable windows and can be naturally ventilated, creating a healthy and productive working environment. 🔗 Find out more: https://brnw.ch/21wMqjQ #Shanghai #China #Architecture #Design #Construction #Engineering #Alibaba

In a recent article with Interior Design Magazine, Armstrong Yakubu, Senior Partner and Architect at Foster + Partners, discusses pushing architectural Boundaries. From growing up in Nigeria, to career highlights and design philosophy, Armstrong shares his journey. In this article, Armstrong explores some of Foster + Partners most influential projects, including the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank Headquarters, The Reichstag, New German Parliament and the Great Court at the British Museum ‘Reducing carbon is about doing the most with the least. We all have to deal with the climate crisis. And I feel the best buildings relate to history. You can see that with the Reichstag in Berlin. The dome is transparent, and it is very clear what is old and what is new. It is the same with the covered plaza at the Queen Elizabeth II Great Court in London’s British Museum. The interventions show the passage of time by being true to history.’ 🔗 Read the full article: https://brnw.ch/21wMl6s Images: 2: Hongkong and Shanghai Bank Headquarters, Hong Kong © Nigel Young / Foster + Partners 3: Reichstag, New German Parliament, Berlin © Reinhard Görner 4: Great Court at the British Museum, London © Nigel Young / Foster + Partners #Architecture #Design #Construction #Engineering

In a recent interview, Felicity Wright, a Journalism Graduate invited Suzan Ucmaklioglu, Inclusive Design Specialist at Foster + Partners to delve into how architecture embraces neurodiversity in the built environment. "The way we embrace inclusive design is by focusing on people and their experiences which ultimately leads to designing integrated spaces that function for everyone as a whole, and doesn’t become this add-on extra." Suzan Ucmaklioglu, Inclusive Design Specialist at Foster + Partners. 🎥 Watch the "Beyond Blueprints" interview: https://lnkd.in/epzGCYWs #InclusiveDesign #Neurodiversity #BuiltEnvironment #Architecture #Design #Construction

🎥 Reflecting on an inspiring experience from my academic journey, I’m thrilled to share my final university project—a documentary delving into how the built environment impacts autistic individuals 🏙 The journey began with my passion for design in architecture, but it was through my collaboration with Foster + Partners, one of the world’s leading architectural firms, that my understanding of the industry and inclusive design truly evolved 🏛 Speaking with Suzan Ucmaklioglu, an architect and inclusive design specialist, was a revelation. She shared how the practice is pioneering in designing for the mind, ensuring that spaces are not just visually stunning but also accessible and inclusive for all — and not a "bolt-on extra" 🧠 Having started this project as a student journalist with limited knowledge on architecture and neurodiversity, my conversations with industry leaders like Suzan, alongside Dr Eleanor Willard, Dr Katie Gaudion, Steve Maslin, and case study Alice Farrell, opened my eyes to the complexities and responsibilities of designing spaces that serve everyone ❤️ I’m incredibly grateful to Foster + Partners who spent the time to share the amazing designs they'd achieved and I can't wait to see what more they have in store! Their work is not just shaping skylines but also redefining how we think about inclusivity in the built environment 📢 This experience was a powerful reminder of why I love what I do — connecting with people from across the nation, learning from them, and amplifying their voices to spark change 💻 I invite you all to watch the documentary and join in advocating for a world where architecture embraces and celebrates diverse needs:

In a recent article with World Architecture Community, Laura Narvaez Zertuche, PhD, Partner and Urban Designer at Foster + Partners, explored the integration of AI into urban development, emphasising its potential to shape sustainable smart cities. ‘Technology should not dictate our behaviour with the world, but should honour our social contracts, enrich our heritage, and preserve our environment. In essence, it should help us inhabit the world in a much more sustainable manner… I believe that the path to more sustainable cities and the adoption of new technologies lies in urbanizing these technologies. By doing so, we can create more operational urban AIs, which are essential for the sustainable cities of the future.’ 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eCCRa8YK #Ai #UrbanDesign #SmartCities #Design #Architecture

Plans for new 54-story tower in Miami have been revealed. Nigel Dancey, Head of Studio, Foster + Partners, said: “The tower’s tapered form unifies its various functions, enhances structural efficiency, and creates an elegant marker on the Miami skyline. An environmentally responsive facade draws on Florida’s vernacular architecture, with a louvred shading system to create a comfortable internal environment, while maximising views out from this amazing location.” #Architecture #Design #Miami
