Battersea Roof Gardens and 50 Electric Boulevard wins ‘Architectural Design of the Year’ at the London Construction Awards. 🏆 The Battersea Roof Gardens mixed-use building features 436 apartments, a 164-room art’otel, and is topped by one of the city’s largest rooftop gardens. The garden is home to 23,000 plants and 55 trees, with grassy areas for social events - and soft ambient lighting which extends use into the evening hours. 50 Electric Boulevard provides 200,000 square feet of new workspace which provides maximum flexibility and will accommodate future tenant requirements. Floor-to-ceiling windows and cantilevered balconies create a permeable and healthy working environment, while the use of greenery and natural materials throughout the space enhances wellbeing. The two new buildings and high street share a gently undulating form, which has been designed to maximise views of the power station. The meandering street offers a wide range of restaurants and shops, receding and expanding at the upper level to create unique vantage points and moments of pause for people as they walk along. Congratulations to all London Construction Awards 2024 winners! 🔗 Find out more about Battersea Roof Gardens: https://brnw.ch/21wNsaE 🔗 Find out more about 50 Electric Boulevard: https://brnw.ch/21wNsaG #LondonConstructionAwards #Architecture #Design #Constuction #Enginerring #Building #London

On 6 February 2023, the city of Antakya in the Hatay region of Türkiye was struck by a series of devastating earthquakes on the Turkish-Syrian border. In the months following, Foster + Partners was invited by the Türkiye Design Council to provide a vision for the reconstruction of the city of Antakya – where nearly 80 percent of buildings had been destroyed. In the latest +Plus Journal, Maria Letizia Garzoli and Eleni Gklinou, Urban Designers and Nicola Scaranaro, Partner and Architect at Foster + Partners, discuss their research approach and how it has informed the framework for revitalising the city and its communities. Revitalising Antakya is a social project as much an architectural and infrastructural one; it must address the practicalities of safely rebuilding structures that provide shelter and security, while restoring a community’s habitual and emotional ways of life – the rhythms that sustain Antakya’s rich identity. 🔗 Read the full article: https://brnw.ch/21wNqgr #Architecture #Design #Build #Construction #Antakya #HatayProvince

As part of our ongoing efforts to celebrate diversity and culture, this October we are marking Black History Month with a mural by Joseph M. Mwaisaka, Architectural Assistant at Foster + Partners. The mural entitled ‘Babylon: Children of the Iyaman’ - currently displayed at our London campus - celebrates the unity and shared experiences of the Windrush generation. Drawing from stories, music and photography, Joseph's digital collage brings to life the spirit of togetherness that addresses current times. ‘As architects, artists and creatives, we use art to paint stories that words simply can't. In moments where I'm compelled to share something as common-place as 'unity' I let my art take centre stage and paint a story that I possibly could not justify with words.’ Inspired by moments and emotions of post-1948 narratives and drawing from Bob Marley’s ‘Survival’ album, Joseph’s creative process speaks to the ongoing importance of a united voice—one that resonates not just within the African diaspora, but across the world.

Designs revealed for an exclusive new live-work building in Seoul that caters for a highly personalised approach to business hospitality. Located on a prominent corner plot of Seoul’s Dosan-daero Road, the twelve whole-floor units feature personalised spaces for working and entertaining, as well as private rooms for relaxation. The vaults also include personal dining rooms, bars, and a wine cellar to create a highly immersive experience. The wellness level on the floor below offers a spa, pool, and luxury treatment areas. “The holistic design achieves the highest standards of wellbeing, with naturally ventilated spaces, direct access to sheltered outdoor areas, and outstanding facilities for owners and their guests. The building will be a private oasis for business in the heart of the city.” David Summerfield, Head of Studio at Foster + Partners. The arts lounge and bar, vaults, and wellness level are divided into a series of separate spaces to guarantee complete privacy for all owners and their guests. A lightwell on northern side of the building draws natural light down into the vaults and pool, which are located below ground. The building’s street-facing façade is broken down into a series of bay windows with a range of private green balconies and winter gardens that offer direct connections with the outdoors and provide natural ventilation. The spectacular penthouse unit has direct access to a private roof terrace for relaxing and entertaining with views across the city. 🔗 Find out more about the project: https://brnw.ch/21wNnZ5 #Architecture #Construction #Engineering #Building #Design #Seoul
