This Wednesday marked the start of an exciting new research project focused on inclusive design which is being carried out in partnership with The DisOrdinary Architecture Project. Over the next few months, a diverse group of disabled creatives will visit a series of completed Foster + Partners buildings across the UK. Our first study, earlier this week included a visit to Imperial War Museum Duxford. The project seeks to capture the experiences of disabled artists and architects visiting our projects and creatively expressing how design affects people’s quality of experience, dignity, welcome and enjoyment. Our collective aim is to develop a series of tools based on the lessons learnt with the intention of championing greater inclusive design practice within the industry. #InclusiveDesign #Architecture #Design #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #AccessibleDesign #DisabilityDesign

🌎 From Earth to Space and Back 🌑 a new exhibition from Foster + Partners. For three weeks, the ‘EARTH to SPACE: Arts Breaking the Sky’ festival will fill the Kennedy Center with musicians and astronauts, poets and researchers, visual artists and engineers, actors and environmentalists, architects and astronomers, dancers and scientists, filmmakers and space designers. Foster + Partners has designed an exhibition for the festival, ‘From Earth to Space and Back,’ which asks visitors to imagine a future where humans have left their footprints on Mars, where the thrill of exploring uncharted worlds is within reach, and where technological advancements in space revolutionize life on Earth. Since 2012, Foster + Partners has worked hand-in-hand with NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) to imagine habitats for other planets. Each new concept brings fresh insights on how we can design more responsibly, build more sustainably, and live more harmoniously on our own planet. “For over a decade, we have been working with the latest technologies – and industry-leading collaborators – to design extra-terrestrial habitats and explore opportunities for life in space. The Kennedy Center festival is an incredible occasion to showcase this work, which has the potential to transform the way we live. We hope that visitors will be inspired to think creatively and consider new possibilities for an alternative future.” Irene Gallou, Senior Partner, Foster + Partners With scale models, 3D-printed structures, and captivating films, the exhibition presents groundbreaking projects and asks: Why should we build a second home on Mars? Building Tomorrow: Hospitality. 🛎️ This month, we asked Annamaria Anderloni, Marilu Sicoli, and Armstrong Yakubu about hospitality. Their responses highlight the importance of storytelling through design, emphasise the need for light-touch construction techniques that respect existing habitats, and demonstrate how the introduction of public spaces to private developments can bring them to life. ‘In my experience, the key ingredient for good hospitality design is generosity. Often, creating a successful hotel or resort where guests want to stay also means giving something back to the local community – and inviting people in.’ Armstrong Yakubu, Senior Partner and Architect at Foster + Partners. Every month, three different voices from the practice share their ideas about the future of the built environment. Covering a range of typologies – from healthcare to stadiums and airports – we are building a picture of tomorrow. 🔗 Read the full article: https://brnw.ch/21wRqVH Artwork by the Design Communications team at Foster + Partners. #Architecure #Hospitality #Design #Engineering #Construction #Innovation
