FPCR attended the Botanical University Challenge Careers at The Queen's College, Oxford University. Two of our botanists James Warren and Paul Sharpe ran the FPCR careers stall, engaging with the enthusiastic botanical students about their current work and all the exciting opportunities we can provide to them. Since 2016 the Botanical University Challenge has grown into the amazing competition we saw this year, showcasing incredible botanical knowledge from all the student teams which took part. It was a pleasure to attend the careers fair and networking event in Oxford Botanic Garden to discuss with students their next career steps, and we look forward to seeing some of you in our industry in the future. If you didn’t manage to get around to seeing us at the fair, please get in touch for opportunities at mail@fpcr.co.uk Thank you to Botanical University Challenge and Oxford University for hosting and congratulations to the Cambridge team on their victory in this years competition! #botany #careers #university #ecology #opportunities

Mental Health Awareness week 2024. The theme of the week this year is Movement: moving more for our mental health. At FPCR we are highlighting this by a series of lunchtime strolls from our offices. This is a time to get outside close to nature, get some gentle movement, and talk to colleagues in a relaxing environment. Moving more is great for our mental health and can increase our energy, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost our self-esteem. But so many of us struggle to move enough. The link below provides some helpful guidance. https://lnkd.in/dq-zDs5f #activeFPCR #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #MomentsForMovement

One of Dorking’s Principal Ecologists Natalie, was out doing an ecological survey on a site this week and had a very rare close encounter with not one but two badgers, they were very curious to explore what she was doing. They hung around for a few minutes before disappearing back into the scrub. If you are interested in opportunities with FPCR please contact us, as the 2024 surveys season is now in full swing. Tom Bennett, Associate Director (Arboriculture), appeared on the BBC 1 wildlife series Countryfile over the weekend. Tom was filmed as part of the episode covering the history and wildlife at Rutland Water. This episode showcases the work carried out by Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust with their volunteers, friend, partners and reserve team. Tom was leading a team of Bat Ecologists from Leicestershire & Rutland Bat Group, Derbyshire Bat Group and Staffordshire Bat Group as part of a long term study of Nathusius’ pipistrelle bats which are resident to Rutland Water but also believed to use the reservoir as a stop off on their migration to and from Europe. Watch the piece on BBC iPlayer at the end of the episode: https://lnkd.in/dEztM7p #Arboriculture #Countryfile #BBC

We are delighted to hear this! A beautifully designed Landmark civic building set amongst high quality public realm, incorporating rain gardens - the first phase in the transformation of Manchester Road, #Stocksbridge

Board Director at CODA Studios Ltd

🏛️ Planning permission has been granted for this landmark civic building that will anchor the regeneration of Stocksbridge town centre. Stocksbridge 519 is set to become a new hub for the local community and will be home to: ⏺️ A state-of-the art new library on the ground floor. ⏺️ 10,000 sq ft of modern and flexible office space for new businesses to establish and grow. ⏺️ Purpose built classrooms to deliver adult education and skills. ⏺️ Space for pop-up banking services and other local community facilities. ⏺️ Space for a new town centre café operator. From the very beginning, we felt it was important for the building to reflect the distinctive character of Stocksbridge. The design has taken inspiration from the heritage buildings and industrial architecture of the town, and the more modern structures of the neighbouring Fox Valley development. We also wanted to create a building that the local community can be proud of and that will last for generations. Beauty in the built environment matters and research consistently shows that people highly value beautiful buildings and places. So we’ve strived to create an attractive building that the people of Stocksbridge will love and cherish for many decades to come. The building has been designed with sustainability in mind and will include photovoltaic panels, rain gardens for stormwater run-off, and a blue roof system that temporarily stores excess stormwater, minimising the risk of flooding. We have been closely working with Sheffield City Council, the Stocksbridge Town Deal Board, Rider Levett Bucknall, FPCR, and Arup to develop the design and setting of the new building on a site partly occupied by the current library building on Manchester Road. Stocksbridge 519 is part of the Town Deal investment in Stocksbridge, which is focused on town centre improvements and investment. The plans also include an attractive new Town Square and car parking, as well as major improvements to the currently rundown precinct area with new shopfronts and paving. It’s a great honour for CODA Architecture to be part of the team that is creating a new vision that will transform the traditional retail area of Stocksbridge and create a future-proofed town centre that will meet the needs of the local community. Thanks to Paul Bedwell Town Planning for successfully guiding the application through the planning process. With planning permission secured, we can’t wait to get on site and start delivering this landmark civic building for the Stocksbridge community!

Really pleased to have been involved with this project and glad to hear we got the RM permission. It has been an interesting project to be involved in with lots of collaborative working both with Cornwall Council and with the team of consultants who worked well across all disciplines.

Senior Planning Manager at Bloor Homes

As the saying goes, ‘like buses’…. At the end of last week,  Bloor Homes Exeter Region received a delegated approval from Cornwall Council for our reserved matters proposals (Phase 2A) for 326 new homes (including affordable housing) at Treledan, Saltash, Cornwall. Needless to say, this is a great result, especially in the context of the current planning environment; under the direction of a Planning Performance Agreement with Cornwall Council and support of our lead consultant LRM Planning (Neil Mantell) has been managed, from submission to determination, within sensible timescales. We undertook extensive stakeholder and community engagement with the support of Alice Jenkins of Foundation Communications, including a public consultation and meetings with the local MP, Cornwall councillors, town council as well as local interest groups – all critical to ensuring community involvement, communicating our vision, and pathing the way for a positive planning process. A big thank you and special mention to our project team, that have worked hard and diligently on our behalf to deliver an attractive, but robustly designed scheme, which we can all be proud of. We look forward to getting the construction of this phase underway, together with progressing our further phases through planning, which includes much needed sports pitch provision.
