𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬! 💀 🪫 Lithium-ion batteries are shockingly more common than you’d think. They’re found in various everyday products from laptops and tablets to mobile phones, power tools, wireless headphones and vapes📱 🎧 💻 🙅Three million vapes are binned in the UK every week and often disposed of incorrectly. Vape kits contain lots of complex materials. They are highly flammable and can ignite if they're not recycled correctly. Vapes should not be placed in the mixed recycling bin, and yet every week we’re seeing an excessive amount vapes come into our Materials Recovery Facilities, putting our people, vehicles and facilities at risk. You can help eliminate the risk of batteries causing fires by following these simple tips: ❌ Never put batteries in general waste or recycling bins ❗Only dispose of batteries using a specialist battery recycling service ❓ Remove batteries from broken devices if you can and recycle both the battery and device separately ⚠️ If you are unsure on how to dispose of items in the workplace which include lithium-ion batteries, get in contact with our Hazardous Waste team

𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗡𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹® 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸: 𝗨𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 💧 This week, we're thrilled to showcase another project that we have supported through our commitment of operating a certified CarbonNeutral® fleet - the Uganda Improved Water Infrastructure project. 🚰 This Gold Standard project addresses a critical need for clean drinking water in rural Ugandan communities. By restoring and drilling new boreholes, this project provided sustainable access to safe drinking water for more than 90,000 people, reducing reliance on boiling water for purification and alleviating pressure on local forests by saving 150,000 tonnes of wood per year. 👩 In turn, it empowers women by reducing time spent on water collection and allowing them to pursue other income-generating activities. Nearly a billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water. In Uganda, this project directly benefits 5,700 individuals, preventing 100 cases of diarrhoea and six fatalities each year. Moreover, by utilising locally appropriate technology like Afridev hand pumps and training local mechanics, the project fosters innovation and infrastructure development within these communities. 🔧

𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐫𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 👣🌲 Our £20,000 grant has helped London Wildlife Trust reopen a popular boardwalk in Hillingdon’s Denham Lock Wood🙌 The area alongside Frays River is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and during lockdown, it became a haven for local residents keen to enjoy the great outdoors. Despite regular repairs however, the weather took its toll on parts of the 170m stretch of boardwalk and eventually it had to be closed for public access 🚷 We contributed £20,000 which was match funded by £10,000 from Colne Valley Regional Park via the Heritage Lottery Fund, which enabled a 100m section of the boardwalk to be replaced with a long-lasting recycled plastic wood-substitute ♻️🪵 Richard Barnes, Head of Conservation at London Wildlife Trust, said: “It was a real loss to the local community when we had to close the original boardwalk for safety reasons, so we are very grateful for Grundon’s donation, which helped us repair the worst part of the boardwalk for reopening. This is such a beautiful area, and we know local residents and visitors alike really value being able to access the reserve once again.” We are very proud to have been able to create a safer boardwalk for the local community💚 ➡️Read more about our contribution: https://lnkd.in/ejyjE-SR

𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗡𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹® 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸: 𝗨𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 This week, we're thrilled to shine a spotlight on the Uganda Community Reforestation project, which resulted in 1,487 hectares of increased forest coverage. 🌳 The Uganda Community Reforestation project organises hundreds of small community-based tree planting initiatives on lands owned by nearly 6,000 subsistence farmers. Traditionally, farmers would clear trees to create more agricultural land, depleting the soil of essential nutrients. 🌱 🪵The planted trees stabilise soils and provides a sustainable supply of fuelwood, which reduces pressure on nearby areas of high conservation value. 🍯🍎🥜 The maturing trees and conservation farming provides additional sustainable benefits, such as improved crop yield, improved environment, and marketable commodities such as fruits, nuts, and honey. Forestry projects like this combine carbon sequestration with sustainable development, helping to improve community livelihoods through education and training, and create additional sources of income beyond small holder farming. 📚 💰 Through newsletters and small group seminars, training is provided on developing tree nurseries, conservation farming and the importance of health and hygiene. 🧼 👩 Meanwhile small farming groups must include men and women, meaning women are also given access to leadership training and managerial responsibility.
