A good day for Project Greensand and CCS in Europe.   Today, the EU Commission has announced the selection of innovative net-zero projects to receive grants from the EU Innovation Fund. Among the 85 selected projects is Project Greensand operated by INEOS Energy together with the license partners Harbour Energy and Nordsøfonden.   Last year Project Greensand demonstrated as a worlds first that CO2 could be transported cross borders to be stored offshore to mitigate climate change. And recently the independent verifier DNV verified that CO2 can be stored safely in Greensand. The good news on Project Greensand being among the selected net-zero projects is a huge acknowledgement of the importance of CCS in general and of the work done by the partners behind Greensand.   The support from the Innovation Fund will be a valuable contribution to our work with Project Greensand and the fulfilment of the ambition to establish the first CO2-storage site within the EU by the end of 2025/start of 2026.

Managing Director- Middle East & North Africa

Great to be introducing Harbour Energy at #NAPEC this week – the Africa & Mediterranean Energy and Hydrogen Conference which is taking place in Oran, Algeria. We’ve been present in Algeria for over 20 years through our predecessor companies – Wintershall Dea, DEA and RWE – and we’re optimistic for the future as a partner to Algeria’s energy industry. I joined a panel to discuss balancing hydrocarbon production with clean energy, and was happy to highlight Harbour’s commitment to producing the oil and gas the world still needs safely and responsibly, while reducing our emissions and developing the CCS capabilities that will be needed to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries. #WeareHarbour #NAPEC #Algeria

Today marks an exciting chapter as we welcome Wintershall Dea employees and upstream assets into #HarbourEnergy.     With assets in Norway, Germany, Denmark, Argentina, Mexico and North Africa and #CarbonCapture and storage licences in Europe, along with Harbour’s existing assets in the UK and in Southeast Asia, this acquisition transforms Harbour Energy into one of the world’s largest global independent #OilAndGas companies.     📽️ Watch our CEO Linda Z Cook discuss this transformative acquisition

We are pleased to be able to work alongside our strategic partner, Boskalis, who has invested and deployed technology supporting the delivery of our decommissioning and subsea programmes, while contributing to our continued efforts to reduce climate related impacts where possible.

The vessel did so in the North Sea, where our saturation divers worked on subsea infrastructure on the seabed for our client Harbour Energy. While using its dynamic positioning system (DP2), the vessel switched from full use of generators to a hybrid mode that also drew energy from the newly installed batteries on board.   The BOKA Da Vinci was retrofitted with an Energy Storage System, or 'power pack' earlier this year. This reduces the vessel’s fuel consumption and associated carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions by an average of up to 20%, thereby contributing to Boskalis’ emission reduction targets. The systems also provide a power supply and energy storage facility while the vessel is docked, contributing to quieter and more efficient operations. In addition to the BOKA Da Vinci, its sister vessel DSV BOKA Atlantis has also been retrofitted with a similar 1200kWh battery pack, and more powerful offshore vessels will follow in the near future.   We would like to thank the crews of our vessels for their dedication.   #boskalis #creatingnewhorizons #bokadavinci #energystoragesystem #hybridvessels #northsea #sustainability #emissionreduction

Actions over words About a year ago, I had a pivotal conversation with the co-chairs of our Gender Balance Network to discuss future plans for the network. While I support book clubs, panel discussions, etc., I shared my preference for action over words. So, I challenged them to leverage their position to highlight the lived experiences of their members. I listened to the feedback, and some stories were difficult to hear. Some stories echoed my experience many years ago when I was a young parent in the early stages of my career. Today is a special moment for me. I'm proud to share that, following a lot of hard work by colleagues in the UK business unit, we are introducing seven new/enhanced policies to support our employees as they navigate work and the ever-changing home life: ✅Paid neonatal leave ✅Paid fertility leave ✅Paid time off for dependants ✅Paid carers leave ✅Enhancements to our maternity/new parent leave ✅Enhancements to our paternity/partner leave for onshore employees ✅Sabbatical leave Some of these changes go above and beyond statutory compliance because we believe that you cannot separate life from an individual at work. I am sharing this because we need to start taking action and stop performative actions like lovely poses with meaningless hashtags. If you're in a position of influence, your role is crucial. Please listen to your employees and use your influence to support them in navigating life as they support your business. As we've seen in the political debate across the pond this week, not everyone has kids 😀 , so let's be inclusive in our policies and remember to think beyond traditional family structures. A special shout out to Rosann Middleton, who led this project in my team, and Jeni Bratton and Teresa Redondo López, PhD FGS for your exemplary leadership of the Harbour Energy Gender Balance Network. It takes a team to deliver a change of this nature, so thank you, Sharon Bruce, Fiona B., Melanie Lewis and Sharon Henderson MCIPD, for working tirelessly to support this project. #actionoverwords #inclusion #inclusivepolicies Pic credit (author's own from morning walk today)

The Acorn and Scottish Cluster partners met with the First Minister, John Swinney yesterday at the St Fergus gas terminal to discuss the project and opportunities to work together to drive the Scottish Cluster to delivery.    Acorn aims to provide a CO₂ transport and permanent storage solution for a diverse range of industrial CO₂ capture projects across Scotland and beyond, enabling the safe transport of CO₂ to the northeast where it can be safely and permanently stored under the North Sea.   Commenting on The Scottish Government's announcement of new funding support for National Gas’s SCO2TConnect project, Nic Braley from Acorn said: “The Scottish Cluster, with Acorn at its core, and the UK and Scottish governments can collectively make a major contribution to UK net zero commitments, supporting ambitions for clean energy, green prosperity and value for money.   “We look forward to working with both governments to make the Scottish Cluster a reality."    #NetZero #CCS #SustainableScotland

Earlier this week, we spent an enjoyable and insightful day with Offshore Energies UK and Step Change in Safety at their annual Offshore Safety Awards.  Our VP North Sea HSES, Gatsbyd Forsyth de Barrera , kicked off proceedings, talking about the importance of not just adhering to protocols, but inspiring others to take safety seriously – the premise of this important event. Gatsbyd also joined a panel assembled by Step Change in Safety, focused on the results of its latest Process Safety Workforce Survey. She was joined by peers from Empirisys, the Health and Safety Executive, Scapa Energy, Anasuria Operating Company and Apache Corporation. In the afternoon, we took the opportunity to recognise and showcase the efforts of our most valuable asset, our people, hearing from the award finalists in each category about the work they have been doing to drive a culture of safety excellence across the sector.  Congratulations to all this year’s winners – including our very own David Leiper and the many excellent finalists, who took the time to share their commitment to, and accountability for, transforming our industry. Proud to have once again been the principal sponsor of such a fantastic event.    #OSA24 #PlayYourPart
