Health Innovation Wessex is pleased to be working closely and supporting NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight and NHS Dorset Integrated care systems with delivering their work on women’s health hubs. A key focus for both systems is to give women a voice and provide better education, information and access to support around the menopause. This has been echoed especially in Dorset in the survey undertaken during 2024 which was completed by just under 1,000 women in Dorset, where women clearly said they wanted more education and information for support around menopause. A similar survey is currently open to responses in Hampshire Isle of Wight: https://lnkd.in/ee4Xuzmc Health Innovation Wessex is working with the Dorset and Hampshire Isle of Wight systems to support the identification of innovations in the menopause space and on possible adoption and implementation. #WorldMenopauseDay

Here at Health Innovation Wessex, we are working with our local partners NHS Dorset and NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight on their Women’s Health Programmes, including their menopause workstreams.    This is an exciting space to be working in, with innovations changing the landscape of women’s health, increasing awareness and transforming the delivery of care to improve their lives and their loved ones.      We are delighted to have Gemma Snell, Programme Manager in the Industry and Innovation Team, providing mentorship to successful delegates on the South London Health Innovation Network FemTech Accelerator commencing later this month.  Gemma has also provided support to Jyoti Sharma, CEO and Founder of TaraCares Ltd, on their innovation MIMOSA – A Peri/Menopause Responsible AI Digital Health Platform, for those going through menopause. You can hear about the support and guidance that Health Innovation Wessex (HIW) has provided to Jyoti in our podcast available in the comments below. They explore the journey that Jyoti has been on as a female founder of a health tech company, including applying for funding, gaining market insights and understanding the regulatory requirements for health tech in the UK. Hear how HIW has supported Jyoti from concept through to innovation development.  #WorldMenopauseDay Health Innovation Network

Nearly half of UK adults have elevated cholesterol levels, a key risk factor for heart disease. October marks National Cholesterol Month which aims to raise awareness about cholesterol, empowering people to make informed decisions and take action to lower their high cholesterol, leading to a healthier heart. At Health Innovation Wessex, we are proud to be improving the diagnosis and management of Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH). FH is an inherited condition which leads to exceptionally high cholesterol levels, often two to four times those of the general population. It is estimated that one in 250 people may have FH in the UK but fewer than 10% of these people have been diagnosed and are at increased risk of heart attack or stroke. Identification of people at high risk of FH is a key priority of the NHS England national cardiovascular disease (CVD) programme and the NHS Long Term Plan. Working with PRIMIS (University of Nottingham), the ICB’s Medicines Optimisation team and the Wessex Clinical Genetics Service, we helped to implement a pilot of the FAMCAT2 tool to support the identification of patients with familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH). Through this work more than 250 new patients in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have been identified with FH. Across Dorset our primary care focused work has supported the identification of more than 800 new patients with FH. We mapped the Dorset genetic referral pathway to understand where improvements could be made, and innovation introduced; and provided CVD focused education and training to over 350 healthcare staff. We also helped primary care networks to implement the UCLP Proactive Care Framework, a search tool that can identify patients at risk of having FH. ⬇️Click below to learn more about our work in this area https://lnkd.in/egdTuaYa #nationalcholesterolmonth #ncm24 #familialhypercholesterolaemia #FAMCAT #stroke #nhslongtermplan #CholesterolAwareness #CardiovascularHealth #HealthInnovation #Hampshire #Dorset #IsleofWight

Health Innovation Manchester yesterday announced a groundbreaking strategic partnership with Eli Lilly and Company UK & Ireland (Lilly) to initiate a five-year real-world evidence study (SURMOUNT-REAL UK), subject to relevant approvals. The announcement has been made as part of a collaboration agreed between Lilly and UK Government, unveiled at the Government’s International Investment Summit. The study will evaluate the real-world effectiveness of tirzepatide in weight loss, diabetes prevention, and prevention of obesity-related complications for adults with obesity. The evidence generated will seek to increase the global evidence base on the long-term impacts of weight loss medicines and potentially inform the UK’s care pathway approach to the treatment of obesity. Today as part of International Infection Prevention Week we are highlighting how important it is for all healthcare settings to have access to infection prevention resources. The resources must be distributed equitably, ensuring that every patient gets the best high-quality patient care. Patient safety is integral to quality care and patient experience - it focuses on maximising the things that go right and minimising the things that go wrong for people experiencing healthcare. Our work with Wessex Patient Safety Collaborative (PSC) improves patient safety and reduces avoidable patient harm by working with staff and patients across Wessex to achieve the objectives set out in the NHS Patient Safety Strategy. Our PSC can identify and roll out safer care initiatives within the NHS and industry, ensuring these are shared across our local health and care system. “At Health Innovation Wessex, we take patient safety very seriously, it runs through all our work. We work closely with the other 14 Health Innovation Network Patient Safety Collaborative teams to improve patient safety and reduce avoidable patient harm and by working with staff and patients across Wessex to achieve the objectives set out in the NHS Patient Safety Strategy. Together we identify and roll out safer care initiatives within the NHS and industry, ensuring these are shared across our local health and care system”.
