Why waste heat? 🔥 Computers get hot, and cooling thousands of servers in data centres requires huge amounts of energy, which in turn is responsible for huge amounts of carbon. 😎 At heata our decentralised network reuses the excess heat from cloud compute for social impact (instead of adding more carbon into our environment). 🏠 By putting our servers in UK homes, we can reuse our waste heat to reduce hot water bills and significantly reduce the carbon impact of processing. 💧 Data centres that use water for cooling might use anywhere between 1 million and 5 million gallons of water a day. At heata we take the waste heat from cloud compute and put it to work. It's not just an idea, it's happening right now with 100 UK homes benefiting from free hot water. ⏪ In 2022 we won an Innovate UK Smart Grant to test heata units in the field. 🏠 Hosts like Kev (pictured here) joined the trial, excited by the opportunity to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, and with his heata unit he has done just that! ⏩ With more forward thinking businesses partnering with heata to handle their cloud compute workloads, it’s exciting to be bringing climate and social impact to cloud compute by supporting people like Kev with the byproduct of our processing. Happy heata Friday! 😅 It's been a busy first week of the month at heata HQ, with August and sunny weather already feeling like a while ago! So we'd thought we'd rewind a week and share some of the impact heata rendering had in August! ⏩ Shout out to forward thinking studios like bloc digital 099 creative  AnotherArtist.co The Ruby Cube Ltd, Renato Neto  (++ others) who worked with heata to get fast, reliable 3D rendering with a huge social and environmental impact. 🤯 Here is the cumulative impact of these projects:   🙌  47 renders completed. 🖼 Over 55,000 frames rendered. 💷 £211 household bill saving across heata network homes. 🌍 475.1KG of CO2 saved vs using a regular render farm. 🚿 21.3 Tonnes of free hot water provided across the heata network. 🆓 Or 183.5 days of free hot water to heata homes 🤟 We're thrilled to be at the forefront of innovative solutions harnessing waste heat from cloud compute.
