We had the pleasure of welcoming The Lighthouse Charity to one of our sites this week for an insightful and engaging session with our workforce. With free coffee in hand, staff took a well-earned break to hear from the Lighthouse team, who delivered a relatable and impactful talk on the vital support available for: ✅ Emotional Wellbeing – Managing stress, anxiety, depression, and anger ✅ Physical Wellbeing – Addressing aches and pains, weight management, and addiction support ✅ Financial Wellbeing – Emergency aid, budgeting, retirement planning, tax, CIC, and legal advice The speakers really connected with the team, making it a worthwhile and valuable afternoon. The construction industry can be challenging, but having access to this kind of support makes a real difference. Our recently completed scheme at Lambeth Mission for Citygrove Securities plc has delivered a wonderful new building for Lambeth Mission & St Mary’s Church, in addition to a 12 storey Premier Inn with 137 rooms.   Replacing a 1950s church complex, the new church will open seven days a week, serving as a worship space, café, community centre and meeting place for local charities and youth groups. The new modern, accessible church building also includes three new light-filled apartments, and an existing statue and other historical elements have been sensitively incorporated into beautifully designed outdoor spaces.    At the new Premier Inn, hotel guests will benefit from the scheme’s attractive location close to Waterloo and South Bank, with many attractions just a short distance away.   With striking architectural details throughout and a #BREEAM Excellent rating, the new mixed-use scheme has made a very positive addition to the local area. Our team has been working hard to help support Surrey Docks Farm, a fantastic community hub based in Southwark. Surrey Docks Farm is a unique proposition - a working city farm and charity dedicated to educating the community about farming, food production, and the natural environment. HG's ongoing collaboration with the farm is focused on enhancing its facilities and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for both the animals and visitors. We've provided vital hands-on support, including: - Skip provision - enabling efficient waste management - Dismantling an unsafe Greenhouse - Rebuilding the Duck and Geese Enclosure - reconstruction of the enclosure for the ducks and geese, complete with a brand-new gate, ensuring the feathered residents have a secure and enjoyable home! We are pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Purkiss as the new Managing Director of HG Construction. Purkiss previously held the position of Commercial Director at HG Construction. His appointment comes following significant structural changes across the business over the past year, with the establishment of a new Operational Board and appointment of dedicated Construction Directors with regional responsibility. Purkiss said: “I am delighted to be taking on this new role as HG Construction continues to evolve as a business. I have been with the company for 24 years and during that time the business has changed greatly, but its values of customer focus, quality, collaboration and communication have remained constant. Excellent progress by our team at our Brook House site, where we’re currently delivering a new affordable homes scheme at Gunnersbury Lane for L&Q, one of the UK’s leading housing associations and developers, on behalf of Women's Pioneer Housing. From the team pouring the ground floor slab mid-October to the current picture is a fantastic achievement! Internal fit out is due to commence in the coming weeks, with HG M&E delivering the mechanical and electrical services on the scheme and HG Offsite Solutions providing bespoke bathroom pods and utility cupboards, securing significant programme, quality and environmental benefits for the client. Brook House will comprise 102 new homes over 15 storeys and is located opposite Acton Town Underground Station. The homes will be let at social rents to single women by Women’s Pioneer Housing, a specialised housing association founded in 1920 by suffragists. The organisation aims to support women who face inequality, abuse and disadvantages, especially in the housing market. This year we began utilising a bespoke digital system for lifting permits across our sites, and have now recorded over 11,000 lifts through the system since January 2024. SiteAssist is a platform which enables digitisation of processes across building sites. Prior to digitising lifting permits, HG Construction had already adopted the platform for permits to work, crane permits and stepladder permits, amongst other processes. The implementation of a digital approach to lifting on sites is aligned with our digital strategy, incorporating technology across the business to maximise safety and efficiencies. A digitised lifting approval process was championed by our CEO and has ensured watertight compliance. It enables site teams to plan ahead for success and quickly and easily capture all relevant data including images - ultimately providing full traceability, accountability and visibility. It has also eliminated the need for paper records, offering obvious sustainability improvements. Our site teams have fully embraced this new approach to risk assessment for lifts, and we are very pleased with the safety, efficiency and environmental benefits secured by the digital system. Our innovative offsite manufacturing arm, HG Offsite Solutions, serves our UK-wide portfolio of residential, student accommodation and hotel clients, providing high quality bathroom pods and utility cupboards. HG's offsite division has gone from strength to strength over the past year, now employing a team of 50 staff with capacity to deliver 50 bathroom pods and 25 utility cupboards per week. Our pods and utility cupboards are precision engineered in a controlled factory environment, involving clients at the design stage to ensure the products meet exacting standards. Quality control is paramount at every step – from content and design, throughout production through to careful installation – ultimately delivering an exceptionally high standard of product. As well as our offsite manufacturing capabilities, HG also internally delivers cranes, concrete frames, piling, and mechanical and electrical services, enabling us to simplify the build process, remove risk and uncertainty, and ensure high quality, sustainable solutions for our clients. HG Offsite Solutions is making a significant contribution to the overall success of the HG Construction Group and we have now expanded our Hull operation with an investment into a new storage facility. This will enable our team to build pods in advance and ensure immediate delivery when required, securing programme certainty.
