Light creates the magic in photographs and this is my favourite arrival photo so far - thank you HMS Oardacious. We had all types of weather in half an hour - the light was playing with me all the way in! The team have been on land for ten days now, but that doesn't mean there isn't still plenty to share! 🤩 • These BRILLIANT photographs from World's Toughest Row have not been shared on our channels yet, but they're absolutely wonderful! 😍 • And whilst there are some awesome shots of the team navigating the waves on the way into land, and a great one of the flares being lit, the best ones have to be the ones that depict the love and happiness in their eyes as they reunite with family. 🥰 • With tears streaming down their faces, it's a wonder that race director Carsten Heron Olsen was able to keep them on the boat long enough to hold up a union jack before they leapt on to land to embrace their loved ones. 🫂 • It just brings all of the emotions of that day flooding back. 🥹 • Excitingly, we are now just £374 away from reaching the £20,000 target!!! WOW! What a shot of the team this is, as they rounded the Southernmost point of Antigua and Barbuda, on their approach to the finish line! 📸 • On a few occasions in this crossing we've mentioned that the cameras onboard do not give any perspective to the waves, so the big Atlantic rollers can look quite muted - where as when photographs are taken from another vessel like this, all of a sudden the perspective is there and we can really see the sort of conditions they were tackling! 😱 • And it's testament to how comfortable the team were on the boat at this stage - despite the entire front end of the vessel pointing into the air, and them being at a really steep angle, we can see the giant grins from all of their faces as they ride over the top of one of their last waves of the crossing. 🌊 • Incredibly, the team have now been on land over a week! 🤯 • Photo by World's Toughest Row • If you have enjoyed this crossing as much as the rest of us, PLEASE consider supporting the team by donating TODAY! The HMS Oardacious Valkyries display the Submariner's Jolly Roger! 🏴☠ • In these images we can see that after all the HMS Oardacious crossings, (2019, 2022, 2023 and now 2024) they have held the tradition of displaying their Jolly Roger, but have substituted the cross bones for crossed oars. 🚣♀️ • This is a long held submariner tradition that came about during World War I. First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Arthur Wilson, complained that submarines were "underhanded, unfair, and damned un-English" and that they should be "hanged as pirates". These photos are amazing. 🙌 • In these images we see a picture of the team just before they launched, and just after they landed...and the difference is incredible. 😯 • And whilst their hair is sun-bleached, and their skin has been affected by the levels of exposure, it is their eyes that are most striking. 👁️👁️ • These are eyes that have witnessed spectacular things, and endured phenomenal hardships. They're eyes that have seen towering waves, indescribable sunsets, bioluminescence, moonbows, flying fish, and dolphins.
