Well done to the collective team led by Tom McEwan getting another project on to site! Positive progress like this is great to see in these current times. We have managed to close on multiple projects this year getting sizable projects started on site benefitting the built environment industry in the regional economies we serve. A lot of hard work goes on within the hub South West Scotland team to get projects on to site. We tender and procure design teams/ QS&PM teams/ contractor teams and set up these contracts, manage the entire development progress across our 2 stage process, manage the market testing process seeing a minimum of 80% of works packages tendered by 3 or more companies ensuring VFM, managing the complex design process incorporating sustainable measures, manage all the commercial aspects and then formulate and conclude the tried and tested hub standardised contracts tying it all up quickly and moving on to manage the projects in construction. All in partnership with our participants and supply chain. look forward to seeing this one getting built! Yesterday I attended the Ayrshire State of Regional Economy Event hosted by Ayrshire College My Chair Dr. Willie Mackie facilitated an informative discussion with Tom Arthur Minister for Employment and Investment. I related to the wider discussion. I myself live in Ayrshire, have young children and I am very focused on ensuring when they come to seek education and work that they don't have to move away to get these opportunities. It was summarised very well by Alastair Dobson that a strong regional economy with Skills and Innovation at its core is key for this - and I completely agree. I also reflected that the company I run is in existence to serve our shareholders NHS Ayrshire & Arran / South Ayrshire Council / North Ayrshire Council / East Ayrshire Council to be a partner to procure, develop and deliver public sector projects ensuring, as the Minster outlined, that the sizable public sector purchasing power serves the regional economy. Over the past decade hub South West Scotland has done a fantastic job at delivering for Ayrshire - per the info graphic below. This happens by our team working in partnership with public sector bodies, tendering to maximise CWB, retaining the local pound, creating jobs & apprenticeships - not just a 70% weighting on "cost" like I see elsewhere. We are very good at getting projects unlocked, on to site and delivered via our highly experienced team. I have a strong onward vision on how we are going to develop local companies to win more work and contribute to the skills landscape. I am keen to raise awareness of this drive.

On Friday, 4th October, hub South West Scotland was thrilled to host an unforgettable charity golf day at Haggs Castle Golf Course, raising an impressive £10,330.00 for three amazing local charities. This achievement reflects the strength of our community and our commitment to supporting important causes. The funds raised will go directly to: Juniors Play Cafe Hamilton - Hamilton, South Lanarkshire: Supporting the wellbeing and development of young people in our communities. (Lesley Robertson). Rethink Mental Illness, Dumfries and Galloway: Aiding individuals and families affected by mental health challenges, helping create better awareness and support networks. Ayrshire Hospice in Ayr: Providing compassionate end-of-life care to patients and essential support for their families. The day was filled with friendly competition, fantastic company, and a shared purpose that united us all. Thanks to the commitment of our partners and participants, we were able to make a meaningful contribution that will positively impact lives across the region . We were thrilled to welcome a group of enthusiastic students from Ayrshire College to our Riverside development in Ayr on behalf of hub South West Scotland and South Ayrshire Council last week for a site visit. 👷♂️👷♀️ The visit provided a fantastic opportunity for the students to gain hands-on experience and insights into the industry. Our Project Manager John Smith enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the construction techniques used in the new development of 75 flat as well as showing the students the different stages of the build process. We were also joined by Vedran and Steve from LMA Architects who helped with any technical questions the students had. A big thank you to the students for their curiosity and engagement, and to Ayrshire College for establishing a strong connection between education and construction industry. Hub South West, in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council and BAM UK & Ireland, recently conducted an initiative to capture and rehome water voles from the #Gartcosh community hub site, involving students from Gartcosh Primary School. The event provided valuable insights into the importance of water vole habitats and how critical it is to rehome them ethically whilst preserving this species.
