The Energy Transition Zone Ltd has signed a collaboration agreement with fellow HS member TÜV SÜD, who will be the operator of its Green Hydrogen Test and Demonstration Facilities (GHTDF) site in Aberdeen, set to be the flagship of the Hydrogen Campus within the Energy Transition Zone. A final investment decision is anticipated early next year, prior to the GHTDF becoming operational in early 2027. The facility will provide open-access test facilities for companies wishing to assess pioneering hydrogen technologies, including electrolysers, valves, and meters. The project ultimately seeks to drive further investment and facilitate hydrogen production at scale for the local economy. Martin McCormack, ETZ Ltd Director for CCUS and Hydrogen, said: “This is a major development for Aberdeen. In TÜV SÜD, we have selected an operator of international renown to run what will be one of the foremost green hydrogen test facilities in Europe. Green hydrogen has a key role to play in decarbonising heavy transport, industrial processes, and potentially even heating homes. This facility, with the right partner in place, will help deliver that.” Dr Martin Hanton, Green Energy & Sustainability Director, TÜV SÜD Northern Europe, said: “Aberdeen’s legacy as a major energy hub, coupled with its track record in developing the hydrogen economy, makes it a natural fit for this agreement. TÜV SÜD’s specialism in reducing risk to people, assets and the environment also marries closely with the city’s HSE legacy in oil and gas as we develop new low-carbon energy systems”

Growing the hydrogen economy in Scotland
About us
Hydrogen Scotland (formerly known as the Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association, SHFCA) brings together a unique network of hydrogen expertise with energy companies, hydrogen design & engineering consultants, specialist support and advice, academic institutions, research and development bodies, city and local authorities, and our regional enterprise agencies involved in growing Scotland’s hydrogen economy. Membership of Hydrogen Scotland is open to all-comers. We keep our members informed with regular updates about relevant news, reports, and events. We bring members together with our member briefings, networking events, and regional hydrogen workshops. Our annual conference has been established as Scotland’s premier hydrogen event for industry, technology, and policy insights. We help our members to make new connections and thrive. We also provide a coherent voice to represent, promote and develop Scotland’s growing hydrogen economy and engage with Scottish and UK government to create the right framework for the hydrogen economy to realise its full potential. Hydrogen Scotland harnesses and showcases our member skills and expertise on national and international stages. We share best practices and promote opportunities to develop the hydrogen economy across Scotland and more widely in support of Net Zero. Hydrogen Scotland has established relationships with other national and international hydrogen and fuel cell bodies. We work together to share experience and best practice for building the sustainable hydrogen economy to enable a global net zero energy system.

Maritime Decarbonisation: ‘Green Fuels’ #call for proposals by the European Space Agency (ESA Space Solutions): The objective of this call is to develop new services that support the decarbonisation of the maritime sector, focusing on green fuels and green propulsion systems. ✅ What will be offered to companies: Funding and support both for business case assessment and for the development of new, space-based services, including: -Zero-equity funding* *(50-80% depending on SME Status and Member State Approval) -Technical and commercial guidance -Access to network and partners -ESA brand credibility 👉 Some *examples* of relevant applications: -Support for Supply Chain and Bunkering Infrastructure: Technologies developed for cryogenic fuel storage in space can be applied to hydrogen and LNG bunkering -Bunker-Specific Smart Routing: Space data can enable smart routing for bunker operations, considering bunker performance and environmental requirements. For example, green fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, and LNG require stable operating conditions to maximise efficiency -Improving Reliability of Safety-Critical Systems: Fuels like ammonia (toxic), hydrogen (highly flammable), and methanol (flammable and corrosive) present additional risks. Preventive maintenance and active monitoring through IoT can help mitigate these risks 🔗 Learn more and register for the informational webinar this Thursday, 20 March at 11:00 CET: https://lnkd.in/exZzZdSh

There’s nothing we love celebrating more than the success of Scottish collaboration. Demonstrated yesterday at the port of Leith, an enthusiastic crowd witnessed the world's first green hydrogen Shore Power Demonstrator (the tech, the equipment, the challenges overcome and potential for future) brought together by PlusZero Ltd, Forth Ports Limited, Waterwhelm, Targe Towing Ltd, Logan Energy Limited and TCP Group (Taylor Construction Plant Ltd) supported by an amazing network of Scottish Enterprise, Innovate UK, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom. Scottish universities (Heriot-Watt University & University of Glasgow) were also present, with future researchers & innovators for Scottish hydrogen proudly showing off the hydrogen-powered boats that will race in this summer’s energy boat challenge in Monaco. With several HS members both involved and present at the event, it was an inspiring day and happy to see it all happening right here.
