A great example of our planning work for mandibular reconstruction cases and craniomaxillofacial surgeries. This patient requires single segment Fibula Free Flap reconstruction following the removal of a mandible tumor. We’re excited to share another collaboration with Mr. Puneet Monga at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust. Insight Surgery was tasked with designing and manufacturing patient-specific Wrightington Glenohumeral Guides for a complex anatomical shoulder replacement. This patient suffered from a malunion of the humerus and also required removal of inferior osteophytes from the humeral head. Our custom guides were meticulously designed to align with the anatomical neck in its current position, ensuring optimal accuracy and alignment for the procedure. Proud to share a recent collaboration between Insight Surgery and St. Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London, where we supported a complex case involving a previous distal open tibia and fibula fracture with subsequent bone transport and distal malalignment. Working closely with the surgical team, we provided virtual surgical planning, anatomical models, and patient-specific surgical guides to facilitate a posterolateral corrective osteotomy of the distal tibia and fibula. In collaboration with osteobionix, we also developed a custom titanium tibia plate and porous wedge to ensure stability and promote bony integration into the implant. Insight Surgery recently collaborated with a surgeon from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) NHS Trust, London, on a challenging case involving a Grade 1 chondrosarcoma of the right iliac wing. To ensure precise excision of the tumor, 4mm margins and a biplanar osteotomy were carefully planned with the surgeon. Our team designed two custom surgical guides, tailored to fit the k-wires, drill bits, and cutting blades readily available in the operating theatre. Additionally, a non-sterilizable anatomical model was provided to assist with presurgical planning and to enhance patient communication, allowing for a clearer understanding of the upcoming procedure. The surgeon requested both patient-specific and allograft-specific surgical guides to achieve precise resection and reconstruction. The custom guides were designed to perform chevron osteotomies to enhance torsional accuracy and stability. The inclusion of blocking wires minimized stress concentrations at the apexes, reducing the risk of fracture propagation post-surgery.
