Wonderful to be in attendance at the Institute of Hospitality's Above and Beyond event at the Park Lane Casino. A fabulous panel line up with Joshua Oliver Ndirmbita, Mark Hands FIH, Monica Bewak and Michael Kill hosted by Sarah Peters BA FIH. Great conversation around the guest experience and how this is approached differently for each of these sectors - Private members clubs, casinos, 5 star luxury and the Night time economy! Ranging from the very discreet, to the exceptional memories being created. Each sector has very different customers and how interesting to look at the effects music and temperature can have on a person and their behaviour... and the part technology plays in this. As always wonderful to network with peers and represent Institute of Hospitality London Region.

More than 25,000 jobs gone since October. Today the UK government had a chance to course correct on polices that have seen people pushed out of work, the disabled pushed closer to poverty, and stymied growth for one of the largest economic contributors to UK Plc, and they didn't take it. Confidence, growth, and opportunity, all down. I won't pretend times aren't hard, but hospitality is a resilient profession, and will rebuild, because our people are resourceful, hardworking, and determined to adapt, ensuring that this vital sector rises again to drive jobs, community, and economic strength despite the challenges ahead. It takes someone exceptional to be a member of our #HospitalityFamily, and to succeed in our profession, you need to care, to be kind, and more than that, you need to remember that a career in hospitality can transform lives, and not just your own. Being invited to spend a day with our partners Leonardo Hotels UK & Ireland judging for their 2024 Employee of The Year was simply inspiring. Meeting the bright stars and future leaders of our industry filled me with hope as I listened to their stories of not only exceeding expectations within their hotels and teams, but also supporting their local communities. From lifting individuals out of homelessness, to stocking food banks, raising funds for local charities, and even saving a life, their humility and impact was a resounding testament to the truth that those who choose hospitality are, without question, the very best of us. Times are hard, and the challenges seem relentless, but today reminded me that hospitality is a force for change, and I am humbled by the kindness on display, and what we can do, together. As the leader in professional development, the Institute of Hospitality champions people, inspires and motivates them to learn, and be better versions of themselves. Today, I found myself uplifted, spurred on to be my very best, surrounded by an extraordinary group of people. Our hospitality family. As an ambassador for the Hotel, Restaurant and Catering (HRC) show, it was a privilege to speak at the Inauguration Ceremony for this years Food, Drink & Hospitality Week, opening this incredible event. It was also an absolute pleasure to lead two dynamic panels on stage exploring both "The Power of Wine in Hospitality: Insights from Top Female Sommeliers", and "Skills & Professional Development for Growth and Retention". A pleasure to join friends and colleagues at the Institute of Hospitality: London AGM last night, an evening that provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the triumphs and acknowledge the hurdles our #HospitalityFamily is facing during these trying times. It's very easy to feel that we, as an industry, are not being listened to right now, and I share our frustrations, but events like these show just how valuable the power of both connection and collaboration are, and the positivity that comes from opportunities for us to come together, share our challenges and look for solutions. We would like to thank all our members and guests that joined us at last night's AGM and networking event at Harvey Nicols. Those in attendance had the chance to sample the delicious Petrossian UK Caviar and canapes from the restaurants on the 5th Floor and had the opportunity to dine in the restaurants afterwards.
