🗣️New Press Release: Maritime Industry Associations launch consolidated BMP Maritime Security publication. 🌎The Industry Associations of BIMCO, International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association), INTERCARGO, INTERTANKO & OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum) supported by over forty maritime stakeholders, have today released a consolidated and enhanced publication Best Management Practices (BMP) for Maritime Security (MS). As an interactive online publication, BMP Maritime Security consolidates previously published regional publications into a single, comprehensive publication with actionable insights and advice. It focuses on providing a threat and risk management process and, recognising the dynamic nature of regional security situations, provides signposts to direct users to the most up-to-date security intelligence and risk assessment information. Guy Platten, Secretary General, International Chamber of Shipping, said: “Recent years have shown the stark security threats that seafarers and the industry can face in the service of world trade. From the conflict in Ukraine to the Red Sea Crisis, the dangers faced by shipping have increased to a severity not seen in two generations. This new global BMP continues the shipping industry’s unswerving commitment to protecting seafarers and mitigating threats to the trade on which we all depend.” Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eMnq3j8S #ICS #Maritime #MaritimeSecurity #GlobalShipping #Shipping

"We stand at a crossroads of digitalisation and decarbonisation” — a timely reflection by Guy Platten, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping, during his presentation at Singapore Maritime Week 2025 Maritime Manpower Forum. As the maritime industry accelerates its journey toward sustainability, several critical challenges remain. Green fuels, essential for decarbonisation, remain prohibitively expensive. This raises the fundamental question: how do we finance this transformation? At the same time, the industry faces the task of upskilling up to 800,000 seafarers in the coming years. Mr Platten was clear: Action is needed now. To succeed, the industry must invest not only in technology and fuels but also in people, ensuring that safety, sustainability and career longevity go hand in hand. #SingaporeMaritimeWeek #SMW2025 #MaritimeFuture #GreenShipping #DigitalTransformation #AlternativeFuels #SeafarerTraining #Decarbonisation #MaritimeLeadership #ICS #SustainableMaritime #FutureOfShipping

🗣️ New Statement: International Chamber of Shipping’s comment post USTR (United States Trade Representative) Section 301 Investigation public hearing. The public hearing was held over two days, March 26, 2025, with more than 60 witnesses providing testimonies in person. 🌎 The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) backs the goal of strengthening U.S. shipbuilding. A strong, competitive shipbuilding industry benefits global trade, and the international shipping sector seeks more options, not fewer. As raised during the hearing by multiple representatives, the proposed fees on Chinese-operated and Chinese-built vessels risk significant unintended consequences. These measures could disrupt supply chains, raise costs for U.S. consumers and exporters, and reduce the global competitiveness of vital U.S. sectors. During Guy Platten’s testimony he stated: “These proposed measures could hurt our customers – the American people. They will make vital U.S. exports less competitive globally. This hurts jobs, be that at ports or at farms, and the American shipping industry, the very thing you are trying to encourage.” For more information please visit, https://lnkd.in/eiHaa2jA #ICS #USTR #Maritime #GlobalShipping #Shipping

🔍 Our recent poll asked how soon the engine should be inspected after slow steaming or a low load operation? Inspections are recommended after every low load operation period, or 3-4 times a month. 🛠 Operating the Engine Under Low Loads available from the ICS Academy provides a practical inspection report and walks learners through each section of the engine that it applies to.
